Official 2016 AFROTC POC Selection Process Thread

why wouldn't they tell us about waivers before the huge EA dump comes out? I feel like we should know if we're submitted before we know if we got an EA, no?

In a perfect world, yes.

My waiver was originally denied like 3 days after EA applications were supposed to be submitted. My guess is that waivers that are now being relooked were allowed to be filed as EA applications with a Form 22 attached to them.

Some of our cadets are at the AAS/SW NATCON, and according to the AFROTC/CC (I won't say who, nice little warrior knowledge test for you ;) ) EAs should be released before Friday, 1 Apr.

Between applying for the scholarship in high school, and now awaiting an EA...oh how this forum loves to toy with us! Ha.

Well at least there stands a chance of being told during LLAB on Thursday for our Det.

Also, the answer to your WK test is the wonderful, Col. Sherry L. Stearns-Boles :D

So this is still "unofficial", but my FTP class has been notified that we need to report Friday morning to find out if we were selected for an EA. I wish the best for everyone else waiting.

I have a feeling we'll find out Friday as well, we have a bag drag thats been scheduled for Friday afternoon for a few weeks now.

This is where s*** gets real.

I wish the best of luck to all of you. Even if you don't make it, remember that there is a a reason to everything, and to keep your head in the game for later (500, OTS, etc.)

I'm so so sorry to ask this- but I've been wondering- what is DS in this case?

"Dear Son"
..I feel like it doesn't mean that..

also-- lets have a great LLAB tomorrow!! so excited to be (hopefully) headed to Maxwell with you all! Best of luck!

Good luck to all. I agree nokecthup this is where it gets real now. Reading derek's post it appears to me that the CoCs know their unit did not have 100% selected and are using today to discuss what the course of action will be for those not selected.

Keep faith

I think we all knew there wouldn't be 100% nationally, what was the national average last year? Mid 70s? I know my Det was 100% last year

Last year I believe it was originally @88% nationally, but in the end it came up to 90-91%.

I was just saying for this CoC it appears that their det. will not have 100% selection, and with other posters speculating earlier that waivers are being given out because they needed more cadets from a pool size, thus the number nationally will be very high might have been the wrong conclusion regarding the % that will be selected.

Not saying it is not going to be high, just saying that there will be kids where they will need to lick their wounds.

I recall how my DSs unit did it, and to this day, I think it was the best way to break the news. The night before after COB, every cadet was called and given a report time. They released the results in 2 batch times. This was back when it was a 55% rate, thus the kids the night before could not figure out if their time slot was good or bad when they talked to each other. The early slot was the bad news.
~ It was also good that it was done as a group because the cadets could look around in the room to see who was there and who was not. It stopped the ...hey, did you get a slot? aspect. No need to ask them because you knew the answer already or iows, pouring salt into a wound.
~~ I know when Bullet was ADAF that is what they would also do for promotions, with a different edge to it. They called the night before the release and basically said no need to come into work tomorrow. They did not tell them outright that they were not promoted, but removing them from the schedule basically said it all to them. They were doing it to save them from watching, hearing, etc celebrate.

I am not implying in anyway that people should keep their phone on tonight. I am just saying that how they release the news can vary unit by unit. Some will do it 1 by 1, and some will do it in groups (SFT select/SFT non-select)

For those that are selected, be ready to spend the weekend at Wal-Mart getting everything you need for the bag drag...not a small list. Also make sure you don't go cheap on that moleskin!

It was like in the 80s nationally. At my Det we had 100% as well.

If I had to guess most Dets will see most if not all of their cadets that had complete packets at the deadline get selected, then it will be the guys that were late submits/had issues with paperwork that will have a lower select rate. I know we had two or three guys told a few weeks ago they were dropped and a week later that they were being competed again.

Based on everything it seems everyone has heard about slots available this year, cadets being told they were being competed again after being told they weren't, and cadre trying to get cadets to fill rated slots instead of non rated I don't see the national average being much different this year.

You never know.

For example, the getting the rated slots filled, what if they didn't get enough of those non-rated to take rated, does Big Blue than decide for OTS they will reduce the non-rated slots in 18, or do they decide that they go with a smaller SFT and have a lower % rate for non-rated compared to the % for rated? In that case they will just select more rated for OTS.
~ Remember for OTS a college junior can apply for the July board, basically they too will know going into their senior year of college that they will go rated. Only about 5 mos., after an AS300 cadet finds out. Our friends DS did this. Got CSO in Aug. graduated in the following May, reported to Maxwell in end of June. Commissioned in Sept. IFS in Oct. UNT in Dec. Basically the same time frame for the kid that did AFROTC all 4 yrs.
~~DS's UPT class had prior Es that went to OTS, and Navs that were now xtraining to pilot. Just saying that just because they were short on rated for this year group, HQ ADAF has multiple options available to fill that rated world slot for FY18.

It is a numbers game. Seriously, I am not trying to be Debbie Downer. I remember the stress level as a parent waiting for the phone call from my DS...will this be a happy day, or will it be a motivation talk day?

I am just saying that even if the overall rate is 93%, and using the rated aspect, do not assume that there won't be 2 different rates. Rated could be 100% and non-rated could be 85%. Than when you break it down even more, non-rated tech could be 90%, and non-rated/non-tech could be 70%. In the end HQ can say it is a 93% overall, but the subset selection rate could be a 30% differential, and for cadets to only think that because they don't have enough rated = high % for everyone means very little from an MPC standard. MPC has a manning quota, and they know how many in each field they need for FY 18 commissioning, and FY19 report to duty. Realistically 80+% of AFROTC cadets will not report until Oct., which would be FY19.
