DS uploaded his Birth Certificate on the portal but the light hasn't turned green. And he was told that WP needs the official Birth Certificate. However, he only has one certificate that he was given at birth. What is the Official Birth Certificate? Thanks

We have a birth certificate which is not official that we got at the hospita, it doesn't have much details on itl. The official certificate came from the State and was sent to us a few months after birth. You may want to check the State or County registrar/records clerk office. For my state I can request official copies online or go into the office and order one, it take a few weeks to get it mailed to you.

You can order one from your the birth and statistic office where DD DS was born. That is an official birth certificate. Ypu can probably provide cooy of the passport if u have one. Ask them. USNA Allows ti use a copy of the passport

Thanks for all your responses! I take a look at his birth certificate again, and it looks very official. (not given at hospital). it was issued 5 months after birth by government. Still don't understand why it is not official? Even if we get another copy it will be the same thing! Since he was born in another state, it will take weeks to get another birth certificate mailed to us. I guess we will upload his passport. Hopefully USMA will accept it?

I am guessing, but have seen similar issues at NROTC. Some agencies use the word "official" to mean either original or one that has a raised seal. People have gotten way too savvy with adobe and other photoshop tools and can make something look very official.

Guess what, the birth certificate just turned green! it does have a raised seal on it. It is official!
