My DS applied to the Academy about two weeks ago with his thoughts on the class of 2018. He is in currently a college student. Prior to college he applied for NROTC...got it but as it was explained the defense budget caused a cut.

He received an official candidate letter today for the class of 2017. This left him very confused and he figured it was way too late in the game to get a nomination because the candidates for that class already have their nomination and are now waiting or have appointments. He figures there is no way he would get an appointment for the class of 2017.

He is going to go through the footwork and will give his best effort for 2017 but he is also realistic and knows there is no way he would get this appointment.

He said at best his name is in the loop again and maybe it will help when he submits for the class of 2018.

So I ask... Just exactly what chance does a kid have if they just sent him an official candidate letter for the class of 2017?
