Oh, the waiting!!

Sounds like a good plan Riverdale. DS can't really take the classes he would at the academy because the classes required for his major (virtual technology and design) don't give him any wiggle room. With the ROTC credits he will be at 19 as it is. Good luck to your ds with his plans!

Wish USCGA had an ROTC program!

Coast Guard HAS a program that is very much like ROTC. It is called the College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative (CSPI). The CSPI program fully funds the college junior and senior years PLUS a salary while completing college.
The scholarship provides students with valuable leadership, management, law enforcement, navigation and marine science skills and training. It also provides full payment of school tuition, fees, textbooks, salary, medical insurance, and other benefits during a student's junior and senior year of college. The CSPI program's goal is to train future officers for success and prepare them for the rigors of Officer Candidate School (OCS).

Each student is expected to complete his/her degree and all Coast Guard training requirements within 24 months after acceptance into the program. Following successful completion of OCS, the students will be commissioned as Coast Guard officers, committed to 3 years of active duty service.

Students interested in pursuing this scholarship opportunity must have a completed packet submitted to a Coast Guard Recruiter by January of the year they are applying.

Benefits:May pay up to two academic years of college tuition
Required textbook costs
Required fees paid for up to two academic years
Monthly salary of approximately $2,200
Medical and Life Insurance
30 days paid vacation per year
Leadership training

Application Eligibility Requirements:Score a 1100 or greater on the SAT I (taken between 1 Apr 95 through 31 Mar 05), 1100 or greater combined score on the SAT (taken after 31 Mar 05 and the score consists of adding the critical reading (verbal) and math sections), or a composite score of 23 or greater on the ACT, or a 4 AQR/4PFAR on the ASTB, or ASVAB GT score of 109 or higher (110 prior to 1 Jul 04.) GT consists of combining the VE and AR scores.

Be between 19 and 27 (applicants must have reached their 19th birthday, but not their 28th birthday as of 30 September of the fiscal year in which the panel convenes)
Meet all physical requirements for a Coast Guard commission
Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale
Must be a U.S. citizen

Must be a sophomore or junior undergraduate student enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a bachelor degree program at an accredited college or university participating in the program. A full list is available at:

Thank you for the information. May be very helpful to some stalkers! Unfortunately, none of these are in our state.

DS received TWE from USNA today, but, as USCGA is his first choice, we are still optimistic. He is also determined to try again next year, if he doesn't get in this year.
Good luck to you all weather you are TWE'd or BFE'd .

The CSPI does sound great, until you get to the part stating that in order to qualify you must attend a Historically Black College, a designated "Hispanic Serving Institution," a "Tribal College," or designated colleges in Guam, Hawaii, or Alaska. Unfortunately, none of the major state universities my son applied to as backups to CGA qualify under that interesting criteria...

TWE arrived here today. Plan B here we go. Good Luck to everyone still waiting for the BFE.

Leapyear and Bigg8tr, Sorry to hear you all also received TWE's. Maybe we'll "meet" again next year if kids decide to reapply...
Wishing you and yours all the best!

Also received TWE today...end of one journey, start of another...best wishes to all.

Envelope

Just spoke with spouse. "Yes, DS has received correspondence from CGA. We'll see what it says when he gets home. "

Wow

anybody have stats on applications

I saw on earlier threads the numbers for EA & EA2. (objee i think)
How many applied in total (EA,EA2, & RA)?
How many appointments have been made prior to 4/1?

congrats to those with BFE's.
To those with TWE......good luck with Plan B's.

Turning the page

The Page has turned and chapter closes and new one starts. DS is Off to Aero Engineering and with In state tuition at an out of state school. AFRTOC program participant and a very bright future. Would have enjoyed the water, sailing and swimming, but will have new things to do. Thanks to all on the board who have been working the process. Congrats to the Class of 2015 and your families. Huzzah!

Finally happened!

Just got word that I've been accepted into the CGA Scholars program! I'm not sure what prep school I will be sent to; I will be finding out which school it will be over the next couple of weeks.

Congrats!

Oh the waiting is making me crazy.

You are NOT alone. When all the TWE posts started popping up on Tuesday we were certain it was over. Still silent. What does it mean? Only 1 more week right?

My DD is still waiting as well! All has been really quiet. We thought is was over too when everyone was receiving their TWE's..... still keeping our fingers crossed and hopes high!!! :w00t:

TWE arrived

TWE arrived today, we expected such since he just had 2 shoulder surgeries and was DodMerb denied. We can now focus on the backup plan and believe that "everything happens for a reason". Good luck to the next class of cadets.

Waiting

This waiting is making me nuts. I know the mail comes at 1:00 yet I still sit by the window. Has anyone received anything in the last day or so?
