Any OGC (USNA alumni) here? If so, THANKS for what y’all are doing!! A true grass roots movement, via social media (*used for a good thing*), rallying around the Mids in an unprecedented way 💙⚓♥️

The BIGGEST thing, imo from what I’ve been hearing from Mids, is the empathy y’all are sending their way. Parents can offer a listening ear, but we simply cannot understand. I’m amazed at the love, outreach, and generosity Im seeing put out there for their USNA family. Old Goats taking care of Baby Goats.

And as an aside, the connections and conversations happening amongst alumni. I follow Navy accounts and hashtags, and it’s amazing. Something fantastic, encouraging, and positive happening amidst these days of cruddy covid.

Just. Wow. And TY...there aren’t words. A huge morale boost. Y’all are amazing humans.

Is Old Goats Club a formal organization ? Have never seen it mentioned in SHIPMATE, and while there are a few Social Media (Twitter and Facebook ) pages, I don't see any actual organization. Is this just an informal group of Alumni banding together to help the Midshipmen through this ?

Did learn one interesting tid bit - the "Old Goat:" is the longest serving USNA grad on Active Duty. Didn't look in depth, but it looks like this is currently an '80 grad. That's hitting way to close to home !

From a Plebe Momma, it's amazing to see what's happening with the "Old Goats" alumni and the "Baby Goats" Mids! I've seen some that have raised over $15k to help support the Mids with a little cheer this weekend and they're coordinating with vendors in DTA. Others are sending care packages to their old PO boxes - can't wait to see if my DS gets one - just to see what ongoing conversation that might spark! Some are calling in just to chat with whoever's on duty and see how they're doing. Others are offering to connect up with firsties who have the same service assignment to provide advice. It's amazing to watch on Instagram right now. Makes this Momma happy. N*ot College

Sir, I've only seen references to the "Old Goats Club" on Instagram, although I wouldn't be surprised if they existed else (probably facebook) as well. I believe its just an informal group providing some sort of direction to a multitude of Old Grads who want to do something kind for the Brigade. I've found stories shared by grads to be pretty entertaining and enlightening.

Watching the Instagram stories from Old Goats rallying around the mids has been the most heartwarming thing this plebe mom has seen in a long time! Also, my plebe has loved seeing the various paths taken by the OGs - it has been inspiring to him! The OG instagram has brought a lot of joy to my plebe and his company mates. Thank you, thank you!

And when these old goats were mids, they were every bit as cynical and critical of the leadership, but as the saying goes, “USNA - bad place to be, great place to be from.”

Yes. It’s the social media I referenced in my post. Gone “viral” on Instagram. There is a grass roots movement of USNA grads, jumping in and on board so to speak to help the brigade. Maybe only a Mid. Maybe a few sponsoring a company party. Maybe donations to a ward room. Lots of different things going on. But mostly connecting grads with Mids. And a HUGE morale booster!

It’s fascinating. And not a formally organized thing. In fact, mostly on the stories of the Instagram accounts so the posts even disappear after 24 hours. I liken it to a spreading wildfire.

If you are on Instagram, there is a link in the accounts (mentioned above) to help if you feel inclined. Things are really happening fast.

I personally just want to thank them 💙⚓💙

I agree with all of the positive statements above. I had mailed 2 boxes of Christmas decorations, just little stuff. My plebe said he got two, and showed me a picture of a little tree. I told him it wasn't from me. He was so happy, he said it smelled like a real Christmas tree. He has a mystery Old Goat that gifted it to him.

This support from Old Goats is amazing, and has done what moms and dads, sibs and mentors couldn't. Showed empathy and support from those who have gone before. Truly supporting the next link in the chain.

It's amazing. The donations are still flowing in per the Instagram pages. FB moms and dad pages are all sharing similar stories. I love that our son is part of this family. Not college, not your basic university or education, but the best place for him to be, and 4 years from now, to be from.
He will pay it forward.

My class had four Old Goats in a row. It went by class rank on graduation day.
