OML FYI

Quite a few posts on Reddit indicating CULP didn't get applied the "Cultural Awareness" section. Comments?

If it is the same as when my younger son commissioned in 2015, CULP counts toward extra training, not cultural awareness. Unless that has changed.

Thanks for confirming that. Looking at the "OML Examples" on the attachment CULP is equal to Project GO but it appears that is incorrect.

Don't quote me on anything, it could very well have changed for this year, a lot has changed, even since my son commissioned.

The link only shows one of the Power point slides I know in past full report has been shared with the year prior break down of how the new 2nd LTs were sorted is there a link to the full presentation?

DS was informed today that he made the cut for active duty! He's very excited, and grateful. I don't have any numbers on his BN other than being told all except 1 who wanted active duty got it...

According to a Reddit user (who was told by his PMS), AD cut off was 35. Seems very low to me.

I didn't think Project GO counted towards the OML at all. Did that change too?

My son (and the other MS IVs) were not given their "numbers".
4 of them were distinguished -top 10-2O%,
one cadet got NG who had wanted AD and rest AD.

Does your DS know if the the 4 distinguished cadets all received their requested component? Also how many total MS IV cadets were there?

I would imagine that all that were DMG received the component of their choice. The cadets that received NG was probably below the cutoff numbers.

From what I've seen, the total number of cadets that received AD was in line with last year and the mission the Army had for this year. There has been some talk that they needed more 2LTs so the cutoff was lower, that doesn't seem to be the case.

I would imagine that the lower cutoff this year has more to do with the overall number of cadets and the number that either chose up front NG/Reserve or requested it when they filled out their component choices. The cutoff number is truly a floating number that changes every year. If a class is full of high achievers with high OMS scores the cutoff will be higher, if the class has lower OMS scores then the cutoff will be lower. I'm sure with the new OMS scoring system it will probably take a couple years to settle into a pattern, unless of course they change the whole thing again.

My DS was told he was in top 10% and he understands he will get his first choice -Infantry. That has been his goal . If a cadet is in top 20% then they will get 1 of their top 3 choices.
Don't know how many IV's there are- his battalion includes 2-3 other university. I think the branching results are next month??
The cadet who did not get AD and wanted it , apparently knew it was coming because of a lower GPA.

Would a cadet who graduated/commissioned in August get branching information with the December 16 and May 17 graduates? In other words, is Aug 16 part of Mission Set 17? An Aug grad would find out branch in November?

Just curious, we aren't there yet. But if a cadet doesn't receive what they request, can they appeal? Example, if a cadet wants AD and gets reserves or if a cadet wants reserves and gets AD. Or are you locked into it? I know the Army puts you where they have a need and you are obligated to go. No problem there. That is what you committed to. Just wondering if they have cadets who want to change what they are given.

I think the only way you could appeal the decision would be if you had proof that your OML score was incorrect (if you even see those).
It seems like there was somebody on here a couple of years ago that had that problem.
