One and two year programs affecting 4 yr cadets

A Captain from cadre said the recent acceptance of the new one and two year programs in the AFROTC have greatly impacted this years EAs (Enrollment Allocations). Only -roughly- 40% of FTPs (Field Training Preparation) will be selected for this summer's Field Training, a large contrast to last year's 100% EA. That isn't the only stunning news. Those one and two year programs, which were implemented last semester and are a direct cause to the decrease in EAs get a free pass to Field Training. So, the rest of us who have committed 4 and 5 years to the program and have had to suck up years of personal sacrifice are now given an additional obstacle thanks to a decision to accept 1 and 2 year programs, which are students who basically walk in with their ABUs in our faces and we watch as they walk right out with a commission. ¡Que mamey!

I want to feel anger towards the program and not the fortunate cadets, but when I see them uploading pictures of themselves in their ABUs, I think to myself, "You didn't earn that uniform".

Can anyone else confirm this? Our 2 year cadets that weren't contracted were det dropped due to a memo that just came out from the AFROTC commander getting rid of the 1 and 2 year program

Interesting. We were informed the programs were dropped, but the cadets at our detachment remained.

While I understand the anger, it isnt like you spent 4 years and then got excluded. You also have the advantage that they will have seen you for two years before saying yes or no. I have no idea when they would decide on the person who did one or two year program, but unless they were exceptional, they will have less time to demonstrate their readiness to go

The short programs do have some obvious benefits to both the Air Force and the cadet, however, my anger is warranted. They don't have to put in the amount of work we do. They've got it easy.

Once I'm in, I'll probably look back and not care at all about this situation, but for now, I'm definitely not the only one feeling like this.

I think the OP is saying that the one and two year cadets will not be getting looked at, they will automatically be given an EA slot. The cadets that have been in the program from the start will be the ones that compete for the slots. Since the one and two year cadets are given the slots outright, it means more competition for the remaining slots among the rest of the cadets.

CadetX,
Just to clarify, is that what you're saying?

Seems like there are some differences among the Detachments.

That's exactly what I'm saying.

If they automatically go, then there is an issue. I dont know anything about the 1 - 2 year programs. So are they pretty open to join like the 4 year Rotc plan or do they have to prequalify base on certain requirements.

The 1 and 2 year programs are no longer available, and according to my cadre, they will not be having those again.

i guess they realized having enough men and women joining AF Rotc wasnt an issue and they didnt need all those extra people especially while they are circumventing the system

I personally know some 1/2 year program guys heading to FT this summer. I don’t know about most schools, but they work well here at VMI. All of us have had 4 years of suck regardless of status in ROTC. People switching branches is common.

We were told FT acceptance rate was going to be 86%. Maybe that has changed, but that seems like a very specific number for it just to be an estimate.
