In the online candidate application, where does one enter community service participation/activities? Our son couldn't find it and then neither could we.

In the Non-Athletic, Extracurricular Activity section, one may select membership in an organization but not enter what the group did. Some instances of organizations aren't that active while others support the community quite a bit. It would seem helpful in the evaluation process for a candidate to provide supporting detail. Thanks much and.. Goooo Navy!!

Hello!

If I can recall correctly, they should have a section for extra things for you to describe. I think it's a set # of characters that you can add but that's where I added all of my meaningful service organizations. I also put some stuff in my essays.

P.S.
I found this to be similar with all service academies.

The SAs are less interested in community service, more interested in leadership. Now, if it’s leadership in a community service context, perhaps all the better.

Having had two kids apply to multiple SAs, this I know: Leadership impact is most important. That is, did you identify an issue or challenge, devise a solution, rally others to the cause, and lead them to leave the situation better than when you found it? Community service is noble, honorable and worthy. But it’s leadership that sets apart the best SA candidates, and ultimately, commissioned officers. Remember also that leadership, when practiced properly, is a great form of service.

Thanks much for your insight and feedback. Yes, the generic field title size is 40 characters, However, he was able to adapt. He completed the data points/leadership-related/other and the academic and references have been requested. He's thinking about his personal statement, practicing for the CFA, and studying to take the SAT one more time on August 27th.
