Also, are these chats in any way a screening or "mini-interview"? Would having not participated in one be a detriment to your standing with the admissions committees looking at each round of EA applicants?

Finally, is it true that every EA applicant will received some sort of notice by mail by Dec 24th, even if it is not the desired large white envelope full of joyful news?

Thanks.

Hi, Okay here is what I have so far. Our son made the EA deadline and was reviewed. He has received a "deferral" letter which says they will look at him again under Regular Admission (provided he sends a mid-year transcript or letter of recommendation or other update to his application). I am confident that all EA applicants will get a letter before Christmas, either an Appointment, or a deferral, that's it.
As far as the online chat, I think they do this as an info. session for parents and candidates and is in no way a mini interview at all.
As far as who it is open to: I am pretty sure it is open, even though it says "by invitation only." What happened to my son is that the day after he received the "deferral" letter, we got an email saying "our files show your application is not complete and we are very interested in you, please joing the online chat..." I immediately called USCGA and they said it was a computer glitch, that his application is complete, that he was reviewed under EA and that his application is deferred to regular admission, and that he is still welcome to join the chat... To make the long story short, we wait for the regular decision-decision :) As far as letters, hang in there, everyone will get one either way. Did your kid receive any confirmation that his/her EA application was complete? Mine did not, but others had, so I am not sure what drives the confirmation letters. If in doubt, call the admissions office, make sure his/her application is complete and they don't need anything else, the wait...I know, it is so hard!!! We are currently waiting on the member of congress nomination for the other academies...I am also driving my family crazy!

The online chat last Thursday was not "open", it was by invitation only, for those who had already received their appointments.

It was not an interview in any way.

USCGA candidate interviews, whether done by Admissions Officers or Admissions Parters, are conducted in person.

(I would assume that the one this Thursday is the same - for those who have already received their appointments.)

I just re-read the email my son got. So sorry, although it was sent to him by mistake (it started with: "Good morning,

Our files indicate that you have not completed the application for the Coast Guard Academy. We have a strong interest in you and would like to provide the support you need to complete your application as soon as possible. The Coast Guard Academy admissions office will host an online chat session on Thursday 11 December from 8:00pm- 10:00pm eastern standard time..."
It did state it was only open to people they invited. So, mea culpa...I was mistaken it is not open to "everyone." Although my son did complete his application and has already received a letter of deferral to regular admission, the officer in charge told us he may join the chat if he wants to. MWBluebeard, did you get an email inviting you to the chat? How did you hear of it? Anyway, again, sorry if I mis-spoke...Have a nice evening all!

My son missed an online chat back in November, I believe, because he was working. I

clicked on the link for it, just today to see what would happen. It took me to the USCGA website admissions page. On the right sidebar there was a notice about an online chat for Dec 11th.

He is 100% committed to attending the Academy and has lived the last 3 years of his life preparing himself specifically for the USCGA.

He doesn't have any questions, really, other than, "When/If my letter arrives, will my mom return to NORMAL?"

I'm not sure the admissions staff will want to address that query! LOL

I would say my son has the same question :) Anyway, my son and I will be on the chat on Thursday the 11th. I like it when things are nicely organized and we had been very impressed by the AIM program. This past week with the couple of "computer glitches" we got kind of nervous. Here's hoping following the "deferral" we will hear some good news after we send in his additional information (his application was done fairly early, so there are a couple of things we will be able to send in to update his file). Let me know as soon as you know and let the "mailman stalking" begin again Monday morning! Good night.

I got that email... sent a note to Lt Miller. She apologized and said it was sent in error, since my file is complete .. and i was going in for review under EA

Ditto!

I think that is what everyone wants to ask! It is sad how the highlight of my day is waiting for the mail LOL

LT Amy Miller told my son (by email) that the Dec 11 chat is for

folks whose applications have not been completed. The chat would be geared to their needs.

Blessings.

Ah. Thanks for your help. My mom has just told me to to chill out but i cant seem to do that. I am not sure why tho.
