On the application, the third essay topic is "Please provide any additional information or background you believe will be of assistance in evaluating your application. (400 to 500 words, 3000 characters max)" and it says it is optional. What is something appropriate to write there? I have some ideas about my scouting experience, but I'm not sure that's actually relevant to the topic. Also, is it really optional? I know some schools have an essay they say is optional, but it's actually a test to see if you will write it.

Anything that makes you stand out that you haven't been able to write about in the other essays. If you have an idea go for it.

And yes it's optional....but you should still do it. Why leave anything undone?

It is "optional" whether they select you to attend The Academy. Don't just do the minimum. Yes -- this is a test.
