Options after EA non-select

My son wasn't selected for field training. He was a scholarship cadet. He has other scholarships so financially we should be able to figure things out. He is an engineering major and wasn't planning on being a pilot.

But what are his options now? I know he can just walk away at this point. But there isn't any sort of appeal process? The space force doesn't have any sort of entry outside of this, does it?

And he can be asked to be a 500, correct? But that is without a scholarship? If he does a 500 year and gets selected, does his scholarship get reinstated? Do 500s have to repeat the classes?

And how about OTS? Is that an application process? Do you have to enlist first? Does not getting an EA slot harm your chances of OTS?

Just wondering what the possibilities are. Thanks.

OTS is completely separate and unrelated to ROTC. If he wants to apply, he can do so as soon as he receives his degree. They shouldn’t need to know that he was an EA non-select, and he shouldn’t volunteer the information. Even so, it shouldn’t hurt his chances so if they ask so he should just be honest.

Keel in mind, OTS can be very competitive depending on the needs of the Air Force. During high recruitment periods it may be relatively easy to get accepted. During draw-downs, it is notoriously difficult to earn a slot.
