Orientation 2013

Offer of Appointment

The "packet" you're referring to is the Offer of Appointment, which is a large package, including info on orientation, Armed Forces Bank, and obviously, the Academy. About the orientation, the following was in the booklet:
The choice of which session to attend is yours. There is no limit on the number of individuals we can host for each session.

The program is a Monday-Tuesday program and will provide the appointee with the opportunity to become acquainted with the mission, operation, facilities, and faculty of the Academy. You will have the opportunity to talk with members of the staff and cadets from the Academy. If you have any questions or doubts about attending the Academy, this program will give you answers and resolve any doubts about your role as a cadet. Attendance is voluntary and has no bearing on your appointment.

You are responsible for providing your own transportation to and from the orientation. We highly recommend that you come in on Sunday and depart on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.

On Monday, the Academy will provide bus transportation for appointees and guests from two designated locations (see Hotels Listing), departing at 7:30 am to the Field House. Transportation back to the hotels for the guests will depart Arnold Hall at 4:30 pm. The appointees will be spending the night in the dorms on this day.

It goes on to talk about lodging, check-in, acceptance form (for appointment), what to bring, boot purchase, climate, and activities during orientation. Unfortunately, we have to pay for our own plane tix, oh well. BTW it is confirmed that I will be attending the first session.

Mucho Thanks

PDub,

Thanks, I have not got my packet yet byt that info helps out a lot. My school has spring break in late April so I will probably going then. I am checking Navy out but I will probably except the Air Force's offer, so I will see at "Summer Boot Camp" at the end of June. Btw did you go to the Summer Seminar this last year at the academy? If ya did may be we crossed paths?

Thanks again,

MKF2013

yup, session A, c-flight. i met the mother of one of the participants in my element on SAF.

PDUB i was also in Session A C Flight. C-1. What was ur element?

i think it was c-13, if there was one. it was the last c element. My last name begins with w.

Do you HAVE to bring a guest if you go? There's no "zero" number of guests you can bring....

to summer seminar? i don't think i was offered the option to bring guests last year when i went.

haha no, not to summer seminar. He is talking about the Appointee orientation. and Craig, just leave that part alone. Only use the 1,2,3... if you are going to bring guests.

MKF2013, which element were you in? I was A flight, A-1 of Session B.

city called Bellingham, not too big, but big enough to be on the map.

As you all know, there is only two areas of hotels. I'm staying in area one (pickup point one), and I think it would be awesome for us to meet before going to orientation, just to get to know each other.

For the last three years we have held CC/SAF orientation dinners for those Sundays before orientation on Mondays. For those willing, its a great opportunity for your guys to meet the cadets and for both you and parents to ask questions you may not end up getting answered during your stay.

All the restaurants usually considered are right around the hotels, and, worse come to worse, we 2 digs do have cars.

Dinner on the Sunday before orientation sounds like a great idea. We're thinking about staying at a hotel near pick up point one or actually stay at the Academy Lodging MWR because my dad retired from the military. Can't wait until orientation and then June 25 :D

well for those of us going the 20-21 i know we've been talking a bit. I'm staying by northgate at the hampton inn, but I know most will stay by south gate, where there are more restaurants. Famous Dave's is always an option. Any other ideas? Transportation won't be an issue because we're flying into denver and renting a car to drive down
