Well, I'm back from orientation (the 2nd one) and wondered if anyone had interesting stories to share (or maybe a few horror stories)?

Was the trip worth it?

Well bluesuiter from CC has a great life story, already! Haha, kind of amazing the stuff he has already done I thought.

"indoctrinization day"

HHHHHHAAAAAAHHH!!!!!
I think our row of appointees all simultaneously put our heads in our hands, it was pretty funny. :yllol:

it was some parent i think. but it was hilarious. Us 2nd orientation attendees will be joking around about that and some other stuff for a while. There was even a discussion about being allowed to go to youtube and facebook before recognition. There were some really stupid questions....oh well

INDOCTRINIZATION DAY!! LMAOOOOO. My favorite part was the day long powerpoint session. Fun times.

Appointee:"So if youtube's blocked, what do you do about facebook videos?"
Everyone on our row of seats: :bleh2:

Really, the pool party was pretty fun. I'm ready to hang out with everyone some more, even if it is hell.

Uh huh, sure :p I almost forgot about Ryan's friend at the dinner. Seemed like him and Hornet got along pretty well hahaha.

For those who weren't privileged to be at this orientation dinner... Would it be possible to share this seemingly hilarious story? I'm sure we'd all enjoy a laugh :shake:

I'll take this one boys. Alright, so I invited this kid named Jon that I met at Summer Seminar last summer to our dinner. He showed up before I did (me and cranoOrden were late), and when I arrived, he was seated right next to Hornet. Granted, when I first got there, I thought Hornet was an appointee, but Sam so graciously pointed out the major fact that I failed to realize. So anyways, Jon is the type of kid that has no shame, and no sense of - Hornet will be a firstie to Jon's 4* rank - and just kept going and going about stupid stuff. But it was hilarious.. some of the things he said and asked were pretty awesome. And even funnier, my cadet person's roommate picked Jon as his appointee follower! So we got to hang all week long. pretty dang awesome coincidence.

What an awkward kid....great entertainment.

I think he needs either prescription drug treatment or therapy for drug abuse. I'd say he should also be talking to someone...but he handles that one pretty well already.

Ridiculously funny though.

so i was about to go to bed and decided to get on SAF. cannot be happier after reading the rest of this thread. ahhhhhh that was so hilarious. itll be interesting to see how he handles going cold turkey, won't it cranOrden
;) lol

...and hornet, rumor is that you're vice-wing king next year? i heard it through the grapevine while i was there....

ahaha no. I am definately not the Vice Wing King, my friend Thiago is though. The Wing King is two alcoves down from me (hilarious dude) in my squad. I will likely be a flight commander next year. Watch out though, eagle is likely to be on Wing Staff.

balancing checkbook

Okay... I have a parent story.. walking with a group of parents.. and we have that main guy who was on stage that talked about BCT..the drill sgt. pretty funny guy on stage.. more serious in person... anyways a mother actually asked if her son would be expected to balance his own checkbook.
The answer is yes... just in case anyone is wondering.

I too laughed about Indoctorinzation Day... and the poor mom who was worried about measurements of her son's chest (the tailor messed up apparently) and then she got up again to discuss hepititus shots (A&B)... and the combination. I think she was trying to do permutations..

I felt badly for the cadet who did not show up to give the "honor code" talk... ooopppsss.

Finally the day became too long for my 10 year old....we sat through a lot.. and it was interesting.. we thought the AOG video was the end they congratulated us on dodging the big tuition "bullet" and they said they would be asking us for donations to support various cadet programs etc.. .. and then the MC came out and said.. something about admissions and finance coming up.. and my 10 year old could not contain herself any longer... she looked at me and said.. (not kidding) "She has already been admitted and they told us it is free, what is there to talk about?" At that point I thought it prudent to take her and make a hasty retreat before she blew a sprocket.

Great meeting everyone... it was an awesome weekend and orientation and after seeing more of it in person I am so excited for all of you.. met great parents as well.

There's a lot of great information (and stories) during orientation. But what is really good is that for many people, it actually puts the whole "I'm going to the academy" into a reality check. Not everyone gets to summer seminar. A large portion of those who received appointments only have an academy relationship built around an application web site; their ALO; some mail correspondence; and being medically probed. Also; all those parents and appointees who visit forums such as this one are a very small minority. You all have had the luxury of having people like Hornet at the academy, parents of existing cadets, military active/retirees like Bullet and Pima; and online ALO's like Steve to answer most of your questions. But you will definitely see a lot of questions by parents and appointees at orientation. Many are quite humorous.

But now; orientation marks a major milestone to this adventure. It usually pumps people up; both appointees and parents. You're excited, stressed, giddy, and proud. Now; all you have left is to go to Prom. Finish your Finals. Graduate High School. Make sure you got all your immunizations. Finish the package such as security clearance and such. Then work your way back to Colorado Springs on the 25th of June. Then it is "I" day. For some; "I" day is "Immunization" day (Because they didn't get all their shots). Don't worry if you forget. Your government loves you. They'll take care of you. For some, it is "In-processing" day. For some, it will seem like "Indoctrination" day. But for everyone, there will be a part of it where "I" day will mean; "I" can't believe "I" am actually doing this. "I" wasn't really expecting this. "I" know if "I" go to sleep, "I" will wake up and it's just a dream.

But at the same time, "I" day will also mean, I DID IT!!!

Appointees; get pumped up. Be so proud of what you've accomplished. You've worked extremely hard for the last 4 years or more. Finish up with a bang. Don't slack. Make the most out of the next 2 months. Spend time with friends and family. You done did good. Parents; you did well. You raised a fantastic child who will get one of the best educations in the world. They will grow up and mature in a very conducive environment. You can rest assured that your child will be very well taken care of. It's been a long road for many of you. Orientation marks the END of one stage. (It's only for appointees, so you made it). It's the beginning of the next stage. (It starts the beginning of actually attending the academy). Best of luck to all of you. You all have a lot to be proud of and so much to look forward to. Have a great end to your high school time, enjoy your short summer, and prepare yourself for one of the greatest adventures in your life. Later... mike.....
