If you have orthodontic braces on during your examination is it disqualifying?? because what if you're getting them off shortly after the examination?

They do not meet medcial accession standrads until the braces are removed and there is no follow-on treatment. So, yes, the applicant would be DQd during the exam, but would be waived or qualified when removed.

This will be exactly my daughters situation. She is slated to have her braces removed shortly before she would leave for USNA Plebe Summer. So in this situation is she even eligibile to receive an appointment while she still has them on? We saw the dq online but have not received a letter yet. Are there any waiver type steps we should be taking now such as an othrodontists statement or something?

Never mind. Just went to the DodMERB site and saw the remedial codes. That info was not up last time we looked. Thanks!

I'll spell it better this time:smile:
They do not meet medical accession standards until the braces are removed and there is no follow-on treatment. So, yes, the applicant would be determined to NOT meet medical accession standards for current use of orthodontic appliances, but would be waived or qualified when removed. It is appropriate for the applicants to submit a letter from the Orthodontist regarding the treatment plan and when he/she "expects" to remove the applicances.:thumb:
