Applying to USAFA and USNA for class of 2027...
I had some pain in my knee playing basketball in 8th grade and I was diagnosed by MRI with an osteochondral lesion (cartilage on kneecap was damaged). To fix it, I had microfracture surgery to fix the cartilage. Long story short, my knee has healed more or less completely (mild, mild pain after a lot of activity, goes away soon) and I play sports without issues. However, both cartilage damage and this specific microfracture surgery are listed by DoDMERB as disqualifying conditions. I am going to seek a waiver and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience dealing with USAFA, USNA, DoDMERB, or military aerospace medical boards on these conditions. I am confident that these histories will not affect my military service. Any experience or advice is VERY welcome.
