Does USAFA offer an overnight program for accepted/nominated students before making a commitment? DS was not able to attend the summer seminar. Thank you in advance.

I do not believe that they offer overnight tours for appointees. However - this is from the Class of 2023 Appointee Booklet:

"
In April, Appointee Tours may be offered to provide an opportunity for appointees and their families to visit USAFA in order
to gain an understanding of the Academy environment and envision themselves as cadets. These one-day tours are at the
expense of the appointee, but allow for the opportunity to interact with USAFA personnel more specifically on what is
entailed in cadet life and how to prepare for Basic Cadet Training. Appointees will receive information regarding these tours
when they are offered. If Appointee Tours are not an option, or do not coincide with the appointee’s schedule, please consider
attending one of our campus tours. Although campus tours also include admissions application information, there are many
opportunities to ask questions of a cadet or recent graduate, and to see the campus."

The offer of appointment must be accepted by May 1, 2020. Meaning DS will be able to tour USAFA before the deadline to accept or deny the appointment.

thank you for this information!

My DS had not visited the Academy prior to receiving an appointment. There were 2 opportunities in April (2019) to visit. We flew out and toured. I was able to sit through an information session with him, then we went off on his own with a cadet and sat in on a class, as well as eat lunch at Mitchell Hall. At that time I also had a tour and then met other parents. It was a great experience and was the deciding factor on him accepting the appointment.

One of the things that you can do is make sure that you are connected to the social media channels. For example, C1C Sierra Rodriguez today has "taken over" the Instagram account and has posted a day in the life that seems pretty realistic.

Class of 2022 our DS was offered a day visit after receiving his appointment and told to bring $5.85 to cover his lunch. No overnight. He had been invited for overnight visits at USNA and USMA in the fall of his senior year before receiving those appointments. Our experience with USAFA was a little odd compared to USNA and USMA. He decided not to spend the money and time during the spring of his senior year. I hope USAFA has made some changes to their visits. Especially since we are talking about students with appointments in hand.

Interesting. Which SA did he ultimately choose?

DS ended up USNA. The right choice for HIM. It was a very hard choice but he is very happy.
