I have my overnight visit coming up soon, and I was wondering what should I bring with me? I know to dress nice and all that, but what else should I pack?

Do a couple of searches, and you'll find some extensive discussion. In a nutshell:
-- dress clothes for class
-- workout clothes
-- robe or sweats for room-to-shower
-- book to keep yourself busy while cadets study
-- towel
-- homemade cookies or some other small treat for host is greatly appreciated.

Only two things to add:

1) A good, humble attutude- I heard horror stories from my cadet and her roommates about a couple candidates who fell asleep in their classes, acted rudely to cadets, ect.

2) lots of questions- your cadet will be glad to answer any questions you may not have wanted to ask the men/women who would be interviewing you (MALO or nom board). Most of them will be very truthful in their answers, telling you the good and bad sides of everything.

Uh-oh. Son was exhausted but too nervous the night before his overnight to sleep much at hotel, was kept awake by cadet hosts, and then fell asleep in Russian class the next day. Professor told him he had the cadet routine down already.

USMA's shuttle service/transportation for overnight?

I'm going out to WP in the near future for an overnight visit (flying in to Stewart) and am trying to figure out transportation. I understand that USMA runs a shuttle service. If I can get myself to Thayer gate, can I use it?

Also, can anyone chime in on how they figured out transportation for their overnight? Are taxis or car rentals the best bet to get into Highland Falls, or is their some sort of bus system? I'm still trying to figure out the best way to get from the airport to my hotel and from WP to Stewart after the visit.

Thank you in a advance!

We rented a car and parked at Buffalo Soldier Field (near the Thayer). The shuttle runs every half hour from there around the post. Alternative is that it's probably a fifteen-twenty minute walk to the Admissions Office from Thayer Gate and that parking lot; there's no closer parking during the week.

I think there is a taxi service from Stewart. It's hard to rent a car if you are younger than 25. Some will rent to you if you are 21 but they charge a young driver surcharge.
