Have you already been accepted? If so can you schedule one without being accepted? If not how did you schedule?

I'll go ahead an answer your questions in order.
1) I have been accepted
2) if you have an LOA you can schedule an overnight visit (there may be other ways but i'm not aware of them)
3) to schedule just go to the admissions page. there's a link to do it

good luck!

DAILY VISIT INFORMATION

The USMA Admissions Office offers daily candidate orientation visits for students interested in applying to West Point. Visits are scheduled Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during the academic term, the program begins at 8:45 a.m. and concludes at approximately 1:00 p.m. During the visit, prospective candidates accompany their cadet escorts to class, visit the barracks and eat lunch with their escorts in the Cadet Mess. While the candidate takes part in an escorted tour, family and friends receive a group orientation brief to learn about the Admissions process and cadet life, which is followed by a guided-walking tour of the academic areas. To schedule a daily visit, please either contact our office at (845) 938-5760 between 7:45 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday or use the online visitation schedule request at the bottom of this page.
OVERNIGHT VISIT INFORMATION

The Admissions Office offers overnight candidate orientation visits to candidates who have received a Letter of Assurance or Offer of Admission to West Point. The cadet escorted visit is focused on daily life at the United States Military Academy, and it gives candidates an opportunity for a first hand glimpse of the cadet experience. Scheduled Monday through Friday during the academic term, the program begins at 8:45 a.m. and concludes at approximately 1:00 p.m. the following day. During the visit, candidates accompany their cadet escorts to class and other activities, spend one night in the barracks and eat meals with their escorts in the Cadet Mess. Overnight visits are scheduled by making an appointment at least two weeks in advance and require approval by the USMA Admissions Office. Candidates are not authorized to schedule an overnight visit without receipt of a Letter of Assurance or an Offer of Admission. To schedule an overnight visit, please either contact our office at (845) 938-5760 between 7:45 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday or use the online visitation schedule request at the bottom of this page.

You need to bring very warm clothes; there's a foot of snow on the ground now! You should wear khakis and a sport shirt to class. You should bring work out clothes (shorts/t-shirts/sweats/athletic shoes). Bring a warm coat and gloves! Bring a sleeping bag for the bed.

O SWEET! Thanks very much, def gonna try and get up there some time soon

i know my user name can be a bit androgynous...but i'm a female. so i was wondering what the girl equivalent of that would be?

also, what am i gonna be doing while the cadets are studying from 7-bed?

The cadets only need to be in their rooms appearing to study...depending on when you actually go, you may or may not be with a cadet who has work to do. Most visitors bring their own work from home or else a good book. If you are there during the week, (for example a Tuesday, which is club night) you will accompany your host to his/her club. If it's a weekend, you'll do whatever your cadet does. My son visited Thurs-Sat. He went to meetings w/ coaches and attended classes. He was allowed to watch practice, but not participate. He went to meals. He hung out in the evenings w/ his hosts, who studied some and played some. There are cadets who study constantly, but there are plenty of cadets who are "chill," and study only as much as they deem necessary. Have fun!

PS: bring money for USMA merchandise at the cadet store!

thanks. i'm visiting fri-sat. what happens on the weekend?

^not much this time of year.

Friday after classes and sports is free time for movies, working out, studying, doing nothing.

Sometimes there is mandatory training/briefings on Saturday mornings. If nothing is scheduled cadets are free to sleep, work out, study, go to the PX, basically do anything on post. Upperclass cadets can take a pass and leave post if they desire.

Mine will be in early April, I wonder what is the best time to visit.

Does anyone know if you can visit on a weekend (Sat-Sun)? I need to know all my possibilities because I am coordinating that trip with a second one.

but i'm a female. so i was wondering what the girl equivalent of that would be?
Huh?

Visiting -
All candidates are eligible for a day visit. You arrive in the am. have a briefing and then shadow a plebe. You will go to class, have lunch and then back to admissions. You also then have an opportunity to sit down one on one with an admissions officer. Your parents will be treated to a parental briefing and a tour - by cadets. Very enlightening.....

LOA or appointment - you may schedule an overnight.
If you visit Fri-Sat you may be able to see a home hockey or basketball game - or wrestling or swim meet. There also might be some Club sport competitions happening.
Friday nights are usually pretty chill - you might just hang out. Sat - sometimes there is a SAMI - sometimes some military stuff. It all varies.

First week in April is a good time. The cadets are over the "gloom period" and back from Spring break. The weather could still be a bit nippy though.

PS - mom3boys - the snow all but melted. not much there at all now.

Bring what ever they tell you to bring. Watch the weather carefully. You will be doing a lot of walking. uphill mostly. definitely comfortable winter type shoes. something like hiking boots would be good. A warm, windproof jacket as well. Don't skimp on the hat and gloves and scarf.

Just A Mom: thanks for throwing in swim meet for an activity to do! :shake:

You will likely get the chance to work out with a cadet (if your host doesn't do something, he/she can find someone for you to work out with). For the most cadets there is not organized PT (like in the regular Army) during the academic year. They work out on their own, or with their teams if they play a sport. There are exceptions, such as those who failed or were borderline on their APFT, but that is not the norm.

So. My son's (class of 2012) best friend has reapplied to usma this year. He was turned down last year due to low test scores. He is currently at a top University on a AROTC scholarship, has raised his test scores, and had a 3.5 GPA his first semester in college. Anyway he has not been given an appt. nor has he recieved an loa, but he has been told by his RO to schedule an overnight visit, does this mean he is going to be offered an appointment? I really hope so, he wants it bad. He was the one who gave my son the bug for SA's

Good chance I'd say. He won't get an LOA since they are reserved for high schoolers.
Since he will get a ROTC nomination he has an excellent chance of admission. They just may be waiting on his semester grades.
