Overnight visit

As an appointee, I requested an overnight visit over a week ago for March 22nd. I still haven't heard anything from the Academy confirming my registration or giving details. Is this normal? When can I expect to hear back? Thanks!
 
Make sure to check your junk mail. For some reason when I went to visit the information got put there when it was sent to me.
 
To be honest, the gal who coordinates that in the admissions office is hard to get a hold of sometimes, and if ditsy was a politically correct termnto use on a forum, you might see me inserting it at around this part of my post.

I would call admissions a few times untill you get it coordinated. We had similar problem, and it took a few weeks to schedule, then when we got through we ended up doing it within about three days.

It is well worth the wait though. Good luck.

I scheduled for March 22nd last week as well and I haven't heard anything either.

On the note of Overnight Visits, I was wondering if anyone would talk about theirs. Did you enjoy it? Was your guide helpful? Was it encouraging? Did you get a good feel for academy life? What was your schedule? Ect.

I know there are threads about this but I thought it would be interesting to have a more recent perspective.

I'm interested in others experiences as well. I am still on the fence about accepting my appointment, and am curious as to how the visit impacted other people's decision.
 
I can tell you that my son's overnight at WP left such a positive impression that he is very much sold on USMA, and has accepted his appointment. Prior to that he was really struggling between USMA, USNA, USAFA and ROTC. Although he would still like to do an overnight at USNA, I think it is largely so he has no regrets about giving Navy a fair shot in his analysis. Frankly, I would like him to maintain an open mind at this point, and, to me, USNA offers so many career options in both the Navy and Marines, including fixed wing flying, that he should give Naval Academy full consideration. At the same time, I must admit that my wife and I are both pretty sold on West Point too, and just get a great feeling about him being there.

My son's host plebe was sick, and quarantined to his room, so a buddy of that plebe took over. My son actually was passed around a bit, but he really got a good opportunity to talk to several cadets, and got a good perspective. Its not that he "had a blast". That wouldn't be the right description. He did enjoy it, but more than anything he felt it was a real good fit for him, and he felt a comfort about it. He appreciated what he saw, and respected those he met. He very much felt like he belonged there.
 
WP has such a rich history and being part of that encourages prospectives to be part of the "Long Gray Line". What they don't get a chance is to understand until 2 seconds after the doors of Ike Hall slam shut is how much of a pressure cooker it is there.

My DD just completed her overnight visit at West Point last week and she was able to make her decision to attend USMA during that visit. She had already completed the overnight visit to the Naval Academy back in January. Her choices were: US Naval Academy, West Point, 4 year ROTC scholarships to Princeton, Yale or UNC Chapel Hill. She also had a couple of different host Plebes and she also had a couple of other Cadets come and get her to attend Tae Kwon Do practice with the WP Team. She loved it! After I had picked her up at the end of her official overnight visit, she told me that she wanted to attend West Point. I asked her when did she know...she stated it was on the first day of her official visit, while she was walking between classes that it hit her. She said she knew that she belonged at West Point! What a relief it is that she finally made a decision...a very rigorously thought-out and contemplated decision. We are all very happy and proud of her choice.
 
I had completed an overnight at USNA but West Point felt more like home. The plebe I stayed with was extremely nice and straightforward, she didn't sugar-coat anything which was great. All in all she was having a terrible week, failed inspection, forgot her book for class, all that good stuff. What really struck me was that she still smiled and remained positive through all of it. The classes are really interesting in how they're taught so I'd definitely go to as many with your host as possible. If you have the chance, eat a meal at Grant, the plebes you stay with will enjoy the chance to actually eat their meal inside (something that's usually reserved for upperclassmen). Overall my host really communicated to me that West Point can be a hard place to be, but if you know it's the place for you it's all worth it. She still checks in with me every once in a while. Enjoy your visit, soak it all in, and pay close attention! Don't be shy and ask a lot of questions!

If you google "West Point visit" you can find a page on the website listing the type of visits. Once you choose overnight, you can do it all through your online portal.

This might be a weird question, but what did your son wear on his visit. The instructions in the email seem a little vague. Also, was a sports coat needed? Thanks!
 
Son wore khaki pants with a sweater over a t-shirt. Was kind of casual, but not too casual. He also brought a button shirt for the second day. I wouldn't over think that though. No jeans, and bring running or court shoes, but I wouldn't wear them other than if going to gym with the host plebe. All the other candidate kids dressed the same way as my son.
 
The deadline to accept my appointment is April 15th. Is it possible to get admissions to extend the date in order for me to have an overnight visit before I decide?
