Packing List Questions

Yeah that might probably work probably more though. Especially when your in Jack's last summer goodwill just decided not to do our laundry one week, planning for something like that isn't a bad idea. I brought double what the appointee handbook said and barely had enough, forget what the actual number was though.

In the morning if you bring a dumb watch with an alarm you can wake up 5-10 minutes before the Cadre wake you up at 0500 and get hygiene done. Strongly reccomend for beds and changing into OCPs. Once your cadre wake you up your going to have to be very fast. Don't go out in your hallway and avoid running the water until your Cadre wake you up though. You'll have all the time you want at night your given 8 hours of time to sleep so most ppl write letters for some of that time. I wouldn't bother with white underwear, all of the underwear I brought were compression shorts. That said you will PT 7 days a week in PT gear, and laundry goes out once a week and comes back 3-5 days later. Based on that do the math on what you think you will need then bring a bunch of extra. Nothing is worse than running out of underwear in basic.
To make something clear, we've changed the wake up time every year I work it ;). So don't think " oh it's definitely 0500" one year it was 0630.

So if I’m understanding right. Maybe bring 12 pairs of generic white underwear (or any color) for general purpose then maybe 6-8 pairs of compression style underwear?
our son took 12 pr of compression-style underwear - he threw away most of the pairs after BCT, as they were ones that he was going to get rid of soon anyway. if your cadet forgets to drop off laundry one week, he’ll prolly be wearing some dirty pair inside out on some days ;)

Sort of related question: how does showering work, specifically in Jack’s Valley? Can you shower, and how much time do you get? I’ve heard everything from 5 minutes to half an hour and just trying to figure out what to expect

@Pilot123 has it spot on, cadre can add time if nice but we'll move you quickly. Jacks has no stalls for showering it's an open floor plan. 30 minutes you've heard is for the a course. It's not 30 minutes to shower, it's more like 5 minutes to shower, 25 to get all of the dirt and mud off your uniform.

How often do we wear our v necks?
i would imagine right before A-Day would be the first time. alterations needs to get everyone’s blues ready. current ac year they are wearing blues on M&T, OCPs W&T& every other friday & flight suits on every other friday

So then you don’t need as many back ups as underwear for bct?

Get used to showering in 3 minutes. Your cadre may be more generous on certain days, but they usually give you 5 minutes of which you will probably use 3 or 4 before they send the next basics in.
Does that also apply to girls for washing hair...? I'm a slow showerer but I don't know how I could manage to get dirt off of my body and hair after the A course and actually wash my hair in 3 minutes...is it an issue or people just adapt?

You'll get plenty of time after the A-course to shower and you'll have to adapt for the other ones. A lot of your classmates aren't reading any of this stuff but learn to adapt and do just fine, evreyone ends up making it through and your performance in BCT won't be graded or anything. Nobody cares what you were like as a basic come academic year, don't stress about it too much end enjoy your senior spring you don't get that back. @FlyFalcon is right about cadre varying the wakeup time. What I'm providing is from my experience, but don't overthink it or try to outsmart the Cadre, and do not try to outsmart your classmates.

An example of this was one person in my flight would wake up before everyone in Jack's and put OCPs on. He was always the first one ready to go in the morning and never got rewarded for it. Then one morning they told us PT gear and he was last by a lot and that was a bad day for him. Just stick in with the group and don't be first or last, get through BCT by relying on your classmates and putting forth your best effort every day. Your cadre will appreciate you putting forth your best effort and doing what they say, even if they don't show it.

5 min total from either time you enter or time shower gets turned on ( I gave 30 seconds because showers are weird). For a course, it's up to cadre but you would have time to wash hair and uniform Normally. We don't want you smelling for the rest of the time we're with you that day.
Day to day? You learn to adapt. Only health issues we've seen are when cadre try to shorten that time period. Happened my year to my unit, there was major repercussions for my cadre.

Are we supposed to print all 127 pages of the SF86 form?
You only need to print the pages that are filled out. Basics will input all the information electronically amd will use the printout to help them. Make sure to answer every applicable question now so you don't have to come up with answers at the time.

Gym-style open showers...wall length trough urinals...none of those bother me. But are there still open floor plan toilets at Jacks? So disturbing.😬
That was something indeed, they may have added some for the women in the last year ish but I doubt it
