I got some conflicting information regarding Thursday. Can someone clear the confusion?

(1) can parents meet their cadets (4th class) in Thursday evening?
(2) how do cadets request to be allowed to meet parents?

Thanks in advance!

Well, on the record, we're not "supposed" to be outside the academic study area past ACQ (7:45), but if you just happened to go to the "library" to "study", I think you'll be OK.:thumb:

Zooming, I believe your parents would have to be escorted by a cadet so them getting to the library... well, it just seems a sticky situation.

My 4* were not allowed to see us on that Thursday night, though I guess some were. We flew in on Friday morning. Now that they are older, we'll fly in Thurs night but still no guarantees that we'll see (much of) either of them on Thursday evening.

just park in the visitor's cetner or arnold hall lots and they can walk over there to see you. there's absolutely no problem with that except for the whole "four degrees can't use arnold hall on weekdays." so just hang around outside!

Last year there were tons of 4 degrees inside Arnold Hall meeting parents. So many, that we had to go to the picnic tables outside to find a place to sit down and eat with our then 4 dig. But it is a really pretty view and quiet place to visit at the picnic tables.

There were tons of cadets around the Chapel also.:thumb:

Good to know that some cadets are seeing their parents on Thursday night! So exciting, especially for those moms and dads seeing their young kids for the first time since June!

This is the longest I've ever gone without laying eyes on my son! I just can't wait to get that first hug! I told him I would try real hard not to embarass him by crying, but couldn't promise. He told me not to worry, that there would be quite a few uniforms with tears on the shoulders.

Also if your cadet is in a sport or activity, you may be able to see them there. My son is in D&B and had an email inviting parents to the rehearsal from 4:30-6:30 that evening. So we're planning to watch that and then meet up with him at least briefly after that and let him tell us then what we can do (since he doesn't know yet!).

OBXmom...it probably took us 2 years to be able to say goodbye with dry eyes.

i have read that the chapel is the best place to meet your cadet on Thursday evening.

Gasdoc! You can say goodbye without a flood? I'm not there yet, but I try to hold off till the very last second.

We will arrive around 8:00. Does our cadet need to call the gatehouse to get us in or can we just come on in.

If you mean 8am, then no, you can just drive in. It's an open base. A lot of people go to the visitor's center/museum every day. However, there will be parts of the base that they won't let you drive past unless you have a military ID card. But you'll be able to get to the chapel area, visitor's center, arnold hall area, football stadium, etc... no problem. Being the visitor's center closes at 5pm, and there's nothing else to really see on base, I'm not sure what that rule is. But I'm pretty sure you can still drive on after 5pm. Still, there are the areas I mentioned that you can't drive through without a military ID card. To be honest, I am military (retired), so I never really thought about it. But you'll be fine. later... mike....

Oops! Sorry, I meant 8 pm. We'll just be arriving in town and would like to see DS. Hope we can get in!

I'm sure you will. Never seen a problem before. Just have your driver's license and expect the gate guard to search your car. Go in the NORTH GATE. It's faster and easier to get to the cadet area. Go in the gate, NEVER TURN. Follow the road, eventually it will curve around the practice fields and you'll see the chapel off to your left. Follow the curve. Go up the hill. You'll see a turn for the chapel with the chapel immediately to your left. Turn there. There will be a gate you can't drive through, but a parking lot on the left. Park and call your cadet. If you see the turn for the "VISITOR'S CENTER", you missed it. Go back about 200 yards. Good luck. MIKE....

Hmm, my sponsor has tried to come in late at night (like 2300 or so) and the gate has required me to call in. I'm not 100% sure on what the official policy is . If they do happen to come in after taps I wouldn't recommend calling in and giving them all your information though.

Here's a heads-up for everyone coming to PW. Remember to bring your car's registration and proof of insurance. We got stopped going into the South Gate this evening and had to scramble to dig it out of the glove box. This is the first time that we've ever had to show it.
