We now have a Facebook group where we can share info & get to know each other as I-day approaches (and for the next four years!). By all accounts we're in for a roller-coaster ride and it would be great to meet other parents.

thanks!

Great job getting this started!!! I have a feeling it will become my lifeline:shake:

Have not had this verified but ---as a plebe parent be very careful as to what you post or say on a FB page. Rumor has it detailers watch such sites and use comments when summer starts as well as 1st semester classes. Not to mention they are said to check FB pages of incoming plebes for inside information. As a parent we must be careful that everything we do and say is positive as well as anonymous.Plebes are not allowed media privileges until at least 2nd semester. I know for a fact they will check them once the school year gets under way--depending on your DS/DD company. Some do some don't. Never do or say anything that that could draw attention to your plebe. I suggest the listserve you will be invited to join -you may ask questions as well as voice concerns throughout the next four years. If you want questions may be asked to be kept anonymous and sent directly to the moderator. Plebes may not befriend and upper upperclassmen on FB nor may you send anything you get on the listserve to them. This keeps your plebe from any misinformation ---let me tell you you will hear rumors and many things that are not true but you will have many concerns as well as problems solved on this site and the parent list serve. Best of luck new parents ---hold on for the ride of your life!

I absolutely agree. I know the cadre at VT looked for the cadets on fb and I expect the detailers at USNA will do the same. Even though I have the group set as "closed" it's still a public space. We had a similar group for VT and it was very useful for "are you going for parents' weekend and where are you staying" kinds of communications.

Thank you Blackhawkmom...certainly wouldn't want to do anything to make my DS's life anymore difficult!!! I agree with Brass strings...we should use FB just to coordinate dates and make sure we don't miss important dates!! I am already starting get white knuckles:yllol:
