DS has appointment to the Class of 2020 and my wife and I are beginning to look into all of the important milestones during plebe year. We have an older son at USAFA and made most of the key dates for his doolie year. We are planning on R-day, A-day, and PPW in the spring . We were wondering if there is a fall Parents weekend similar to what USAFA has? Also, if we were to attend the Army-Navy game would we get to spend much time with our plebe?

Family weekend is scheduled for Oct. 21-23, 2016.

If your plebe takes a pass for A/N weekend, you'd have a good bit of time w/ him. Otherwise, no.

Congratulations! You are in for a tremendous experience! I have 2018 and 2019 DS's so this is just my personal opinion.

With all the opportunities to visit WP it can get kinda pricey so - if you have to make a choice between R Day and A Day - I would opt for A Day (just my opinion) the ceremony on the plain when the new class is folded into the existing class is a special moment and very emotional.

There is a parents weekend I believe in October but the Post will be PACKED as it is for all the classes! However - for Plebe Parent weekend at the start of Spring Break is one of the few times you will be able to visit your Cadet's room and you will also have the opportunity to meet faculty and student leadership. With the upperclassmen gone - the Plebe's have the run of the place! Also - the dinner and the formal dance is a great time to meet more of your Cadet's classmates.

As for Army Navy - A MUST! LOL! I have attended past two years (and will make at least the next three) and have had a great time. One little known event - the Friday night before the game is the Army Navy Boxing Classic and you will not be disappointed - the energy in the crowd is great! Also - we have had the boys take a pass and they were able to spend the night with us Friday and Saturday however - they still will have to show for formation on Saturday morning - no biggie. If they do not take a pass - you can meet them at the game and spend some time with them but following the game - they will have to form up for transportation back to the post. Try to find the Army Navy Drum-line face off!

The Thayer is a neat place to stay but for special event weekends - can be expensive. The West Point Motel is decent and is just outside Thayer Gate. It is inexpensive and frankly - you won't be spending much time in the motel anyway. I have stayed there twice and was satisfied both times. And there is a Holiday Inn Express in Ft Montgomery is nice and is maybe 10 minutes away. One word of advice - book your rooms early!

Hope this helps a bit! You will also be tied into some great info on the parents Facebook page.

Congrats again!

The FB page has never gotten in touch with me. Is there anyone I can get in touch with? Any suggestions would be great!

Has your DS/DD accepted his/her appointment yet? If not, you won't be added to the class page until that happens. The admin of the page has a list of cadet candidates who have accepted their appointments, and if your last name is different from your CC, you need to mention that when requesting to be added.

Has anyone stayed at the Inn on the Hudson? If so, is it nice and not too far a drive to WP? We'd like to stay at the Thayer but for 2 rooms R-Day weekend (2 night minimum) it would cost about $1,500!

^I haven't stayed there, but the Holiday Inn Fort Montgomery is ~10 min from Thayer gate, nice/clean and reasonably priced (assuming they don't jack it up for R-Day). We stayed there for PPW last year and it worked out well.
