We have a 2C "Exchanger" son at CGA for this semester from USNA. I see that Parents Weekend is scheduled for Oct 7-9, but can find no other details anywhere. Is it for all classes (4C - 1C)? Will there be registration for specific events? Can parents join their cadet in classes and dine with them? Thank you in advance for any info!

Yes, it is for all cadets, although you'll probably see more parents for the 4/C cadets. Parents weekend didn't happen in 2020, and even last year's was modified. In previous years, parents could attend Friday classes with their cadet. They did not allow that last year. There will be a few specific dinners that have reservations needed. What company has your son been put in while at USCGA?

Attached is a GENERAL schedule just to give you an idea of what the schedule might be like. **This is NOT the specific schedule for 2022 ** https://www.cgaparents.org/s/1043/images/editor_documents/Parents Association/pdfs/pw_generic.pdf

Thank you so so much for your reply and the "sample" schedule - super helpful! Ours is in Charlie Company.

Also, if you are on Facebook, look for PDuddy pictures. He is a volunteer that is tat CGA for many of the events, and tries to take pictures of everyone, including exchange cadets. Great way to get a sneak peek into what your student is doing.

Can I just ask what does an exchange cadet at CGA mean, will he go back to USNA at some point?

Yes - they usually do an exchange for a semester. There are currently 3 USCGA cadets at USAFA this semester. I'm not sure how many are at USNA or USMA this semester. And I'm not sure of the number of exchange cadets currently at USCGA. Usually an exchange happens during their 2/c year. The cadets have to apply to be considered for an exchange, and they have to be sure they will still be able to meet all graduation requirements for their own Academy.

Typically there is an equal amount of exchangers that go to other school and that come to CGA. This year there are 5-6 cadets each from CGA that went to AF, Army and USNA, and an equal number come to CGA from those schools. My cadet says they went into the company of one of the people that came to CGA, so they all end up in different places (those schools are big!). It is a competitive selection process. Cadets apply for an exchange in the spring semester of 3/C year. Once the applications are received, they interview those who qualify, and select the exchange cadets. Exchange is always in the fall of 2/C year. The SA you want to attend must offer your academic program as well (for example, USNA doesn't offer Civil Engineering so a CE can't exchange there).
