On the Parent's Weekend agenda, Sunday is listed with services and brunch. If they are released to the parents after the game on Saturday, do they have to return to attend services on Sunday and brunch or is this an option?

Thanks,

No, they don't have to go back to KP on Sunday. They are free until liberty ends on Monday.

My Information- Limited at Best

From what I have gleaned, you will be able to take your daughter or son off campus after the football game Saturday. I hope to be taking my kid back home to eastern long island after the game Saturday?

The last time I tried to get an answer on this and other important questions about Parents Weekend, the thread was locked because the moderator deemed the questions as being "too contentious?

I now have to laugh, reading some of the stuff written recently. There are a few "know it all" blowhards, going at it, completely off topic, with absolute impunity. Not even a suggestion of "locking" the thread.

I guess it is more about "whose ox is being gored".

I have hesitated posting about our Parents' Weekend experience last year because it was not the typical PW experience. What should happen is that your DS/DD will get liberty shortly after the football game on Saturday. They will not need to be back on campus until the end of liberty - based on the reg calendar, that should be Monday at 1800. There is no limit on where they go, but if they are within a certain distance of campus they are expected to be in uniform. Your DS/DD will let you know those details.

As I said, our experience last year was not what you parents of PCs can expect this year. Parents' Weekend was the second weekend in September, so Labor Day was already past. No three-day weekend. For most Plebes, liberty began after the football game and ended Sunday at 1800. Our Plebe was in Band Company, however, so he had to report by 0600 Sunday morning to march in Battery Park in NYC with the Royal Dutch Marine Band as part of the NY 400 celebration of Henry Hudson's voyage up the Hudson in 1609. After the game Saturday (pouring rain), we brought DS back to our hotel, then went to a restaurant in Port Washington for dinner. (Uniform required at that distance, so he based his menu choices accordingly.) Afterward, we went back to our hotel where he promptly conked out.

Next day, we had him back on campus by 0600, then took the LIRR into Manhattan so we could watch the parade in Battery Park. (Nice performance, BTW.) After the parade, he came with us to midtown Manhattan where we found a restaurant for brunch, then went to see the Titanic exhibit at the Discovery center (I think King Tut is there now.) Then we took the LIRR back to Great Neck, picked up our car, drove son back to campus, and headed home.

Our DS watched us drive away for as long as he could. Brought tears to all of us.

KDBax you described that weekend to a T! Except for us, we followed our ds and 2 other guys walking in perfect unison with the same swagger cuz they are in Band Co, had a million people ask to have their photo w/ them, a Grandma ask my son for his name and number so she could set her granddaughter up with him, got to the top of the Empire State Building in 15 min instead of waiting for 1.5 hrs in line, and watched our dss try to figure out the subway system! I remember it as if it was yesterday! Thanks for the memories:beer1:
