You definitely want to be there by 7:00 am on Friday. You will get to see morning colors and get a feel for what your plebe's day is like. The other reason to get there early Friday is to attend as many classes as you can. You will be amazed at how smart your kid is (at least I was). Usually Friday is also the only day you will be allowed inside the barracks to see where your plebe lives. You will get a specific schedule when it is closer to Parents Weekend, usually about a month in advance. Saturday is strictly scheduled until after the football game when the regiment is usually released on liberty until Monday evening. Keep in mind that flexibility is required here because liberty is in the discretion of the Superintendent and all it takes is one stupid plebe to ruin things for everyone. Time on Monday varies with plebes due back earlier up to 1/C being free until later Monday evening. Your plebe will start getting anxious on Monday because being late will bring the hammer down on the whole plebe class. We usually try to get our kid back soon after lunch. They need time to study and prepare for their evening muster and Plebe Knowledge Test. Also, keep in mind that your plebe may get stuck with at least one 4-hour watch to stand over the weekend. Some companies are better than others about giving plebes the full time off. If your plebe gets stuck with a watch, he/she may be able to pay an upperclassman to take it. While technically not allowed, it is common practice. My DD will do it for free and use the down time for studying. Most upperclassmen will charge $40-50 to take a Parents Weekend watch. The other thing to keep in mind is that not everyone has family visit on Parents Weekend. I know you want alone time with your Plebe, but please consider inviting a solo Plebe along with your family for the weekend. The up side for that is it will be easier to get your Plebe talking if he/she has one or more classmates along. More about Parents Weekend as it gets closer.
