I would like to start making travel plans for parents weekend. Is it typically Friday- Monday? When is the schedule released? Any insight on this would be great! Thanks!

You definitely want to be there by 7:00 am on Friday. You will get to see morning colors and get a feel for what your plebe's day is like. The other reason to get there early Friday is to attend as many classes as you can. You will be amazed at how smart your kid is (at least I was). Usually Friday is also the only day you will be allowed inside the barracks to see where your plebe lives. You will get a specific schedule when it is closer to Parents Weekend, usually about a month in advance. Saturday is strictly scheduled until after the football game when the regiment is usually released on liberty until Monday evening. Keep in mind that flexibility is required here because liberty is in the discretion of the Superintendent and all it takes is one stupid plebe to ruin things for everyone. Time on Monday varies with plebes due back earlier up to 1/C being free until later Monday evening. Your plebe will start getting anxious on Monday because being late will bring the hammer down on the whole plebe class. We usually try to get our kid back soon after lunch. They need time to study and prepare for their evening muster and Plebe Knowledge Test. Also, keep in mind that your plebe may get stuck with at least one 4-hour watch to stand over the weekend. Some companies are better than others about giving plebes the full time off. If your plebe gets stuck with a watch, he/she may be able to pay an upperclassman to take it. While technically not allowed, it is common practice. My DD will do it for free and use the down time for studying. Most upperclassmen will charge $40-50 to take a Parents Weekend watch. The other thing to keep in mind is that not everyone has family visit on Parents Weekend. I know you want alone time with your Plebe, but please consider inviting a solo Plebe along with your family for the weekend. The up side for that is it will be easier to get your Plebe talking if he/she has one or more classmates along. More about Parents Weekend as it gets closer.

PWE 2020 is scheduled for Columbus Day weekend this year. The Regimental calendar is posted on the Academy website or you can go to the National Parents Association FB page where it can found also. The NPA FB page usually has more current information then you will find on this forum. IF there is a home football on Saturday your plebe will be required to stay until the end of the game before being released. If not they are usually allowed to leave after noon muster. If your plebe is involved in a fall sport they may have to stay also. The decision to secure watches is up to the Superintendent, when my older son was a plebe the former supe did not secure watches and members of his class had to stand watch over the weekend. Watches were secured for my younger son's class and all plebes were granted liberty. Return times are based on class rates, plebes are normally required to return at 1800. All of this information will be provided by the academy prior to PWE.

When I was a senior the plebe knowledge test was cancelled. I don't think they do that anymore.

People say this, but I can't think of a time the Supe restricted the entire regiment from parents weekend. Not going to happen.
