We are headed out to the AFA for the next April 8th appointee visit. We plan on stopping to walk around on the 7th after we get there. What gate/parking is easiest to use to get to the visitor center? Thanks

I believe it's the Northgate and by the visitors center. We want in December and that is where they had us go.

North gate is the one for use by visitors, and it is open for specific hours. You can go to the USAFA academy website and there are links to visitor information. Also, be aware that with updated security, you may need a US passport in addition to your driver's license (depends on the state you live in).

I can't seem to find a link regarding acceptable id. Maybe someone else has it and can share it.

You can only go through the south gate if your have a DOD ID. All other traffic goes through the north gate. FYI the gps sometimes sends you to "North Academy Blvd". That is the south gate entrance NOT the north gate. Follow the signs up the north gate entrance to the visitors center. You can park there and walk through a trail to the chapel. The other area is parking by Arnold hall and walking to the chapel. Be careful with speed, they give tickets like crazy there. Lol. Hope this helps

I do not have a passport but I do have a state DL.

FYI From Military.com site

State-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards from Illinois, New Mexico, Missouri, Washington and Minnesota can no longer be used to obtain a visitor’s pass because those cards don’t comply with federal standards, officials said. DoD officials did not say whether or not enhanced driver's licenses (EDL) from Minnesota or Washington would still be accepted.
