Parking during PPW

We are currently making plans for PPW and we are staying at a condo a block from the yard. We intentionally stayed that close so we could walk back and forth to and from the yard because of the crowds. We are planning on renting a car but not sure how realistic it is to think we will ever leave the parking structure. Can anyone tell me their experience with parking during PPW? We are considering taking a shuttle from the airport instead. Would love to hear from those who have walked these roads before us.

Parking is a nightmare :shake: We rented a house that was less than a 5 minute walk but without a garage/parking area. The owner provided parking passes for the street and some ideas of other places we could park. Long story short....the parking spots for which our passes were zoned were almost always full and we got a tow sticker put on our car when we parked in the other "suggested" areas. There just isn't enough parking, and we spent needless hours looking for/stalking spaces! We ended up in a pay lot for part of the time. My suggestion: if you don't need to bother with a car, don't!

We stayed at the O'Callaghan for 5 days during PPW and never needed a car. There is public transportation like the e-cruise which is free and also the trolley that does a loop. When we went to the mall we took a taxi, which is still cheaper than renting a car. DTA is lovely to stroll around...enjoy the sights with your mid!

We stayed at a rental within walking distance. Only time we used the car was for a grocery run and one trip to the Mall. If we were flying in I don't think we would have ever needed the car. Super Shuttle is airport to door and quite reasonable.

We stayed in Eastport and had a rental car. We parked in the parking structure behind Main Street, along with a lot of other PPW parents. Not cheap, but not too outrageous. Never had a problem and just walked in at Gate 1. Once we met our Plebe son, we never set foot on the Yard again until Sunday.

Except for the visit up to our plebe's room - which I think is on Friday - we never actually parked on the yard. (I have a DOD sticker so I can) We stayed up by the mall as did many others. We'd pick up ours at a designated place and hustle away. We returned about 1 1/2 hours before reporting time and had no problem finding a place out by the sea wall. We'd sit, talk quietly, hug, encourage, hug some more then drive her to Bancroft and leave. Staying close is overrated IMHO as your plebe will probably not want to be on the Yard for longer than absolutely necessary. Or hanging out in DTA for that matter. Save that for when things are more calm and routine.

We also stayed out near the Mall....which was a big asset for the plebe...he enjoyed taking in a movie or 2 and eating in the many restuarants available there w/ his gf who flew into BWI Saturday morning.
