Landing LGA mid morning flight. Party of one ( adult) doesn't want to spend $ 40 for fast convenient taxi. Where is the fun and adventure in that? How is this plan and what suggestions do you have?
LGA - taxi to Woodside Train Station ( an approx price of $12 with tip. not sure how current that information is)

LIRR to Great Neck $ 5.50

Hotel right there and if I am still on this thrifty quest and have some time to kill the N58 bus from LIRR to Academy gate $2.50

Thoughts? Corrections? Suggestions?
I did a search on the forum but nothing real current and I am not interested in taking 2 busses to the Woodside Station.

Bus to flushing/main street, to LIRR to great neck, walk from train station to the academy, go middle neck to steam boat road and its all side walk.

Beyond you are hardcore! Is it one bus from LGA or two? And how far to the Academy? I will pack my sneakers. A little exercise might be nice because of the mountains of great food I plan to eat!

N58

Lynpar,
If you take the N58 from Great Neck, make sure you have change or a metro card that you can purchase at the kiosk when you get your LIRR ticket. The bus doesn't accept dollar bills.

I would get metro cards for the bus and then give them to my DS for him so he could use the remainder.

I have done this before, it is a cheap way to make it to KP, around 10 bucks, shouldnt take too long.
Here is what to do:take the Q33 bus from the airport to Jackson Heights Subway Station, take the 7 Train to Flushing Main Street, get on the LIRR there, and take it to Great Neck Station.
You can either walk, take a cab, or the N58 bus from there to KP

Ding ding ding, we may have a winner :shake: I think I will take this information with me and see how I feel when the plane lands. DS said original plan good but hardest part is getting the taxi. I've got all day. The weight of my carry on bag may be the determining factor. DS just asked for some clothes from home. Ip:thumbdown:

I have made the stagger, uh, um, I mean walk from the train station to KP many times in my youth. For some reason I also recall a visit to a business on Hick's Lane in the distant haze. . . . .

Thanks to the forum I knew how much the fare from LGA to Woodside Train Station should be, around $12 with tip. When the meter was at $10 and we were going back past the airport in the other direction ( :confused:Do I look that stupid, pretty sure the cab driver cannot see the avitar I use here, lol) I called the friendly foreign fellow on his folly and his response it was because his GPS lost signal. Gee, my iPhone was working just fine. I kept at him and he restarted the meter with some grumbling. I think the original 12 ish price would have been accurate. The train from Woodside to Great Neck was $8.50 off peak. Very easy and leisurely. I will use this route again. After checking in to The Andrew Hotel I did put on my sneakers and walked to the academy. That is one loooonnnggg three miles! ( Middle Neck Road to Steamboat ) In low 70's it was a very pleasant walk. I believe the cab fare with King Taxi was about 8 for the same route. I am using them for the ride back to LGA
. Their price for the students has been as low as $20 per ride. They also say they park outside the academy on mass exit days with a sign that says $10 a person to LGA. Their regular price is $42. However after telling them how many people I would tell about their great service today I have gotten them to $32, worth it to me today in the rain.
Another on the cheap thing we discovered was getting standing room tickets to a Broadway Show. We did this with Book Of Mormon for $27 a ticket. Regular priced tickets are sold out until next February but they also conduct a lottery every night for front row and box tickets for $32. The show was so good I
forgot I was standing! DS and I did it on a whim and had a great night.

Lynpar, sounds like you had a great time! I've had NYC taxi drivers try to take me for a ride (pun intended:wink:) before - had one who didn't want to give me change for a $20. I nicely reminded him that the TLC (Taxi and Limousine Commission) requires drivers to accept $20s and that the ride would be on him. He came up with the change.

And you did really well with Book of Mormon!
