Hello, I just received my waiver yesterday and started the passport process today. The post office told me that it will be eight weeks minimum, and likely longer. Will I loose my appointment if I arrive on the first day with no passport? Is there some type of military expedited way? Thanks

Congrats on your waiver. You can expedite the passport process. It may cost a little more, but you should be fine in terms of timing. Good luck!

Take a look at this link. Hope it helps. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/get-fast.html

I am not sure, but you can pay $60 extra for Expedited Service. It looks like Expedited Service used to be 2-3 weeks but might now be 4-6 weeks. Hopefully that is before start of summer at USCGA.

With COVID, all government offices are backlogged and behind. I'm sure the academy understands this and expects some cadets will have difficulty with government issued documents. Our son, a CGAS student, applied for his this time last year and it took 7 months, expedited.

We applied for expedited passports in February and got them in less than four weeks.

In April they had a large volume of applicants and are now estimating over 8 weeks... If I don't get it in time do ya'll think I will loose my appointment?

I would be surprised if this issue caused you to lose your appointment. However, no one here can definitively answer that question. I encourage you to reach out to CGA admissions and ask them. When you receive an answer, perhaps you could then circle back and update this thread with what you find out.

Call your nearest State Department Office and explain. They'll get you in quickly in person at their location if you can travel there. If the person you speak with cannot or won't help, ask for the Diplomatic Security Service (DipSec) agent. Many are former military and will take a personal interest in helping you.

No issues with losing an appointment over not having a passport. A number of cadets in the C/O 2024 lacked a passport as of Day One last year and nobody was sent home for that reason. Just tell them when you are asked that you have applied for one and an expected due date if you were given one.

And, congrats!

I just spoke with an admissions officer. He said to notify admissions or your AO and let them know what is going on with your getting a passport. That way they are in the loop.

The main issue for the passport at the start of SWAB summer is for Eagle. The Eagle locations are out, and none of the SWAB summer sessions are out of the US so that should not be an issue. You will still need a passport, but it won't cause you to lose your appointment.
