DS's passport expires shortly before R-day. I assume we renew it for 10 years, but before we spent the $$, wanted to check to see if I'm missing anything. Do cadets get a military passport? Is there such a thing?

You should renew his civilian passport, it is recommended by the SA that they have one. There may be instances where a civilian passport is needed or recommended in lieu of military orders.

There is not a military passport so you should renew as suggested above.

There are govt passports, issued at the point in a career where it's necessary for the duty being performed - generally speaking. They are used for official travel in certain circumstances.

As noted above, civilian passport, obtain/renew on own dine and time.

Definitely renew your passport before R Day. You will need the Blue passport for leisure travel.

At USMA if you do an overseas AIAD (basically an internship) you will be required to have both a regular Blue passport and a Red Official passport. The Red passport is obtained after selection for the AIAD.

Be advised that you can not travel to most countries unless you have six months left on your passport.
