Past History of Hypertension & Waiver

Hello all,

I searched the forums regarding a past hx of hypertension, but no posts answered my question.

I tried to process through MEPS 3 years ago and was DQ'd for Hypertension. I never did the 3-day pressure check I was supposed to do following the DQ. I followed up with my primary care physician--and my BP was under 140/90, and was not prescribed meds.

My new Doc took my BP this year, and it's high. We did a battery of tests... everything is normal, but I am now on meds for Hypertension. I understand that taking medication for treatment of Hypertension is not waiverable. My Doc said if I lose weight, I can stop taking my medication and my cholesterol / BP will go down.

I am currently in college for Nursing, and I want to do the Direct Commission into the Army Nurse Corps / AROTC. I know the history of Hypertension will DQ me, but if my BP is normal at DODMERB and I am no longer taking medication, say for a period of 6 months, is this something that could be waived?

Thanks for the help!

Christopher
