PCS or ETS?

My son was appointed in January and is an active duty enlisted soldier. He believes that he will PCS ( will some leave en route) to USMA and report 30 June. No break in service— simply transition from current status to Cadet. A friend’s son has been appointed and is also an active duty soldier. He has indicated that he will ETS sometime before 1 July. I suppose each might be correct if their contracts of enlistments differ accordingly, but does an enlisted person with more than one year of obligated service remaining after 1 July seperate (ETS) or change stations (PCS) ?
