PE Teacher Eval

DS maxed at least two of six on the PFE, ran a 5.10 mile, and has lettered in 3 sports. He also received his 3Q letter so I can only surmise that this is a new requirement for all. We would also love to know the content in the SOE .

Based on what the other teachers had to complete, I assume it is a Likert scale rating them on athleticism, maybe teamwork/sportsmanship/leadership..? The classroom teacher evals were just a few questions where they had to rate the candidate using a Likert scale and there was space for additional comments if they chose to use it.

Also, does this mean that the people who have already gotten appointments don't have to do it? Just curious.

All appointments and early qualifications are contingent on continued performance and conduct. You can lose your appointment for not sending in your transcript after the fall semester AND/OR having poor grades on it. If the PE SOE shows up in your portal, you better complete it BEFORE the application deadline regardless of what you think your status is.

@nikkip that was as much for you as anyone out there who thinks that they are done just because they have a qualification letter or appointment before the file completion deadline. RCs spend a considerable amount of time in the new year trying to coax fall transcripts in from people who thought they were done already. My guess is this will be the same way.

I think only PE teachers count as PE teachers after reading the email. They were specific and emphasized not trying to interpret it in any way other than that. In case where there is no PE teacher, they listed who is approved to do it in that case.

At my school JROTC is counted as a PE class.

@frenzymando
I think that the letter is pretty clear:
"If you have a situation that is legitimately not covered in these guidelines, you should contact your regional admissions team as listed in your portal."

Basically, if you've never taken PE because your school counts JROTC for PE credit towards state graduation requirements, and that is not one of the instances covered in their letter, then you might should call West Point instead of looking for social concurrence on an anonymous website while your line of questioning and defiance only serves to confuse the issue.

Has anyone received a 3Q letter since the addition of the PE SOE without having had the PE SOE completed?

Does anyone know what the PE SOE is, exactly? Is it some sort of assessment or a teacher evaluation? At any rate, we submitted it to his PE teacher and should know when the teacher reads it.

PE SOE= Physical Education School Official Evaluation. Just like English, Math, and Physics/Chemistry Instructors SOE, it seems that they also have an SOE for PE teachers.

I don't know about the 3Q letter, but I know that if you don't complete the PE SOE, then the application will be considered incomplete. The PE SOE is part of the application.

My DS got the 3Q letter before the PE eval curve ball was pitched. We turned it in to the P.E. teacher anyway.

I am a current candidate for the class of 2020 as well. I saw the SOE for my phys ed teacher in my portal but I also received an email. I already have an LOA, so I did not understand why this was necessary, but I had my phys ed teacher from my freshman year fill it out.

Do the letter. LOA is typically contingent upon completing the application and securing the Nom. Sounds like the new requirement has some wrinkles to work out. I would do it just to cover all your basis.

Does anyone know for sure what the SOE is? Is it a test, is it like a letter of rec, or is it like a ranking? I took PE freshman year and my PE teacher barely remembers me. I am talking with him on Monday; is it a good idea to bring my CFA results so he has a basis for what to rank/write about?

My PE teacher told me they just ask a bunch of questions and he ranks you on a scale of 1 to 5 on each question. I believe it's something like that

I had my PE teacher 2 years ago before I was physically fit or mature to the point that I am today.
AFAIK, he will not be giving me any excellent recommendations based on his prior experience with me.
Am I out of luck?
