Pending Waiver Submission/Review-Please Help

In January he had 3Q and then DoDMERB asked for a photo of his acne on his back. He sent the photo in with a description of what he uses to help clear it up (over the counter topical) and since March 1, 2019, his status says, "pending waiver submission/review". I might add that his acne now is mostly cleared up, but USNA asked no further questions. He has no LOA, at least as far as I know, and he would not qualify for NAPS. As of this moment, nothing on his status has changed. I have read many threads saying that USNA does not automatically request a waiver. This entire process is like hearing nails on a chalkboard over and over again. I am so glad this is my youngest child and I don't have live through this ever again. With my daughter (9 years ago) it was waiting to see which school would give her a full-ride athletic scholarship. This process has been much more painful.
My question remains, "What does his status mean." I would think if they didn't want him they would have sent a TWE by now.

"pending waiver submission/review" means that DODMERB is waiting for the SA to initiate the waiver process.

You said that your sone was 3Q, then they asked for more info. Does that mean he was actually deemed "qualified" by DODMERB, then it changed?

You should be able to look at the history of updates to his DODMERB record and see whether or not he was deemed "does not meet requirements" before it changed to "pending waiver submission/review".

If he is still "does not meet qualifications" , which is DQ, then all you can do is wait

I've never heard of needing a waiver for acne. He's a teenage boy for goodness sake!! They ALL have acne.

Chin up! It will all be good, whatever happens. :)

I feel like the only CPR people still in the game are those with an LOA waiting on waivers. in the past few years those types were the last to get appointments to USNA, and also a few non LOA's that got accepted to the prep schools/foundation. if DS has an LOA and just needs an acne waiver, I really don't see why they are waiting so longs. unless they only have 3 "waivers" left to give and they are sorting out who gets them. that's just a guess though. Beyond frustrating to wait but its almost the 15th!

Medical acne is different that “teenage pimples”. Think up to bulbous cysts. On chest and back (I suspect why a picture of his back was requested...it’s an indication of acne, vs pimples). And requires medical intervention ie: Acutane (which is a no joke medicine. Must complete monthly bloodwork, CANNOT get pregnant, etc) to clear up. It doesn’t on its own. Google it and you will see the difference.

I had a son do a course. He wasn’t an extreme case of acne, but had stubborn stuff, that needed medical intervention. If they don’t, one can have scars. The amazing thing is with proper treatment, it’s a clear face almost immediately!

I have read that acne (vs pimples) can affect how gear is worn. Not sure of other reasons it’s a potential issue.

Editing to add: if a reader considers acutane, it’s a drug that a candidate must have completed using for a certain amount of time before the “ok” from DoMRB. Don’t recall the amount of time.

My apologies for the flip response. I guess I was trying to lighten the mood a bit. These are bad/stressful days for those still CPR. But I understand your explanation. Best of luck to all!!

No apology needed! Sharing a common misconception about acne, and why it can be an actual issue. It’s important that if a reader is considering treating, to do that sooner so the medicine is not an issue.
