DS current status with DODmerb is "Pending Waiver Submission/Review" for "History of systemic allergic reaction to food or additives." He has a mild tree nut allergy. He knew the DQ was coming and attempted to be proactive by emailing his admission counselor in attempt to see if there was anything further he needed to do (ie: statement from ENT, etc..). The email was sent on the 15th and no response to date. Any idea what the USNA waiver authority will request or how long the wait may be before we hear something?

Same here with my admission counsellor, I sent an email a while ago but still no response. I'm region 4b, what about you?

Region 1A. Status on DODmerb just changed this morning from "Remedial Requested" to the current status of "Pending Waiver Submission/Review"

The statement you received just advises you that DoDMERB sent your DS's information to his service academy. If the service academy feels he is competitive and likely to receive an appointment they will submit a waiver for him and it can go 3 ways.
1) waiver granted no further action needed
2) remedial request for more documents or new doctors evaluation etc..
3) waiver denied-DQ'd stands.

As for how long this takes there is no set answer. It could vary depending on how busy they are to how complicated your DS case is. I hope this helps!

There will be a questionnaire to fill out regarding symptoms, and they may want RAST tests ( blood tests for specific allergens. We had those tests done by a University Pediatric Allergist in our hometown. He also sent a letter interpreting the results. Child has a mild reaction but still carries an epipen. Disqualified with "history of systemic reaction" and "current oral allergy syndrome ". It took about 4 weeks to get a waiver from USMA and a bit linger from USNA. Waiver request was early in the process ( October). Hope this helps and good luck

Will status on portal change or will it remain at "Complete Medical Qualification Exam," in regard to the "Required Actions" portion of his application status?

My portal has said "Complete Medical..." for some time now and what I've gathered is that it will only change once your package is deemed competitive enough to be seen by the Waiver Authority AKA USNA Medical Q Board- then it could change to "Pending Waiver Submission/Review" or something along the lines of waiver granted.

Do you think we should go ahead and have the testing done with the Allergist and basically follow the steps you all did to be proactive?

In my experience, it saved time to have everything ready. That being said, they may ask for something you didn't anticipate, and if you do it yourself you are responsible for the cost. So it depends on your situation. It can take a while to schedule, so one option might be to call for an appointment while you are waiting. Good luck

You might call dodmerb for an update and see what they are asking for. They are usually quite helpful

It is late in the game but sitting back and waiting for a waiver review is not the best course of action. You have no control here and it's best to be pro-active.

Contact DODMERB directly and request the status and exact reason for the medical DQ. If you have medical records that explain or offset the DQ from DOBMERB submit them directly to DODMERB and work with the physicians at DODMERB. This way you are being pro-active and have the best shot to overturn the DQ. Best of luck.

Hi! Would you be willing to share your child's allergy blood test numbers and what specific allergen he/she was allergic to? Also, what the allergist wrote? Thank you!
