Hello All,

Been Accepted to Penn State Main and at this point hoping for NROTC to Penn State. Been looking around, and all signs pointed to a Mid-January release of results for Tier II, but I haven't seen anything. I'd applied for Computer Engineering and am now freaking out because board results have been slow in coming. I know Lucky Macy has heard Navy Option to Penn State - congrats!! Has anyone else heard anything from PSU or am I getting worked up for nothing?

Haven't heard anything from Penn State ROTC (either NROTC or AROTC).

usna/nrotcpsuhopeful,

You are not getting worked up for nothing. They have one of the best NROTC programs in the country. You are going to love it there. You are going to get a great education. My DS is a junior there, a physics/astrophysics double major. He doesn't do ROTC. There is also the Creamery, they make great ice cream. We are from Harrisburg, PA, which 90 miles southwest of University Park. If you or your parents need anything, let me know. I would be more than glad to help.

Good luck and God Bless

We are Penn State

I maybe wrong, but I believe Agagles's DS also got PSU, pm him because I am not sure if it was AFROTC or NROTC since he applied for both.

Does anyone know anything about Army ROTC at Penn State? My son has been accepted at Penn State main campus and is hoping for an ROTCI scholarship.

I'm still waiting to hear from NROTC. My first choice is PSU and I really want to go there. If I'm not awarded a scholarship then I plan to still join as a College Programmer. Is anyone here currently in the NROTC program at Penn State or at least can provide some insight regarding PSU's NROTC unit? I am curious how many college programmers there are and the stats on how many of them are awarded a scholarship.

Visted Penn State two weeks aga and NROTC was full by January --- 30+ on waiting list -- so now everything must shift as people decide if they are going to the SAs right? Then the NROTC scholarships open.

Do you mean full as in no more scholarships or as in not even college programmers can join?

To get an idea of Navy plans for programmer scholarships availability do the following:

Google Naval Service Service Command (NSTC) go to other links/directives and review PDF NSTCNOTE 1533 - NROTC Navy Option Production Management Strategy for Academic Yr 2011-2012.pdf.

FYI class 2014 3 yr side load scholarships available (0) , Class 2015 3yr side load scholarships available (70).

Just more information for planning. You will see, Navy like AF is cutting side load (programmer) and 4 yr scholarships.

good luck

So next year there will only be 70 college programmer scholarships available? Is that typical or is that still unusually low?

What about advanced standing? How hard is it to get that these days? I don't care about the money, I just want a commission.

Also, is there a limit to how many college programmers a unit can have?

What is the exact date that the orientation, or "gap week", starts for penn state NROTC candidates? Does anybody have the date on that?

Last year we had Orientation Week on Campus about 4 or 5 days before other students moved in, like the middle to end of August. We did O-Week on Campus and not at Fort Indiantown Gap, this was the first year that PSU's unit did not go to Gap

Is O-Week going to be at Gap this year? Do all freshmen participate in it including college programmers? Thanks for the info by the way.

I'm not sure if O-week will be at Gap this year, I believe they thought it was pretty successful being run on campus by upperclassmen and a Gunnery Sergeant MECEP. And yes even CP's participate.

That's good to know. What exactly does O-Week entail? What's the schedule for PSU's unit (ie PT, leadership labs, ect)?
