PEP

You are tested on the CFA on Sunday. You also get a chance to take the PFT but I am not sure which day (this is coming from someone who is at Session I right now).
Respectfully,
Kathleen

It may have touched on a few times before... however, in plebe summer, despite the fact that girls are physologically different, their fellow plebes will expect them to atleast keep up physically. At times it may not sem fair, especially when some useless out of shape guys are barely keeping up, however that doesnt change the fact that anyone, especially girls, who fall back will get noticed... seriously, if your a girl and don't have background with running, you better be ready to run on I-day

2012mom,

While minute as it may be...if you are talking about the Navy's fitness exam, it is the PRT (physical readiness test)

The PFT is typically used for the Marine Corps Other services too)....pull-ups, situps, and 3 mile run.

quick question regarding the CFA (and this is a marginally appropriate thread for that haha):

is the mile run on a 1/4 mile track, or is it a mile long road run/course?

thanks!
heading up to annapolis this saturday and can't wait to take that CFA! heh :)

You'll be running around Farragut and Rip Miller Field. It's basically one lap on the street around a few sports fields. Rectangular shaped with long straightaways.

thanks.
do you know if it's marked at intervals?
i have a shot at maxing out or damn close if i can time quarter miles, but i'm not sure otherwise.

It is, but the markings are meant for the 1.5 miles PRT course (and they are very small spray painted numbers on the ground anyways). If they run it the same way we did when I did NASS detail, the markers won't do you any good cause your start at a different position. I think the staff may be able to give you ballpark markers on the test day, but nothing solid.

thanks.

Chill out a bit, you're over thinking this. You sound like you are in great shape and will do well on the mile portion, a second or two will not change your score by an appreciable amount. Also, it's the composite score that matters most.

The CFA is given at SS more as a reference point for a future candidate but USNA will accept the score if you do well. You sound like you are ready. Go for it and enjoy the experience.

yes overall score certainly does matter, that being said if one is a bit weaker in one of the items then maxing out on your strong suit is what you want to do.

I have a 2/c that has a very hard time with one of the PRT events - barely passes, and I do me barely, like the minimum to pass. He cleans up on the run and then holds his own on the other event he is able to get his score up to a 90%. As with many things in life - know your strengths and weaknesses and learn how to cut your losses and take advantage of your strengths.

haha alright.
running is my sport so I get very into it, and I would love to go sub 6 which i could definitely on a track (I have very specific pacing ha). but I suppose the mile portion of the CFA is not quite like a track meet where every second is a huge deal. ;)
