Permanent Retainer?

My son's orthodontic work will be done this spring. The orthodontist wants to put in a permanent retainer that is on the back of his teeth. I know you can not report with braces but are permanent retainers acceptable? I know the permanent retainer is much more likely to make all the money in his mouth well spent because I doubt remembering retainers at night are a high priority during plebe summer. (FYI DS does have a 2020 appointment.)

I don't know the answer. But if you want to be sure, you may want to consider calling the academy and asking for the medical staff and asking them. They may ask how long it will be in because of Sea Year. Your DD/DS will get a check up both medical and dental and perhaps some shots before going out to sea. Not to start a new topic, but, Wisdom teeth are a big topic of discussion and cause for panic/anger/frustration/debate/etc...if your DD/DS does not have them out...the dentist at the academy could require that they be removed before going out to sea.

And, Congratulations on the appointment to the academy and welcome to the KP family!

Does anybody know about regular retainers? Mine is a clear one that I have to wear for another year.
