Can parents expect phone calls home while D is at SLS? And, what time are they in their room at night? What time are lights out?

They will probably be asleep relatively early, the tentative schedule I have access to (I'll be at session 2) has the day starting at 0545. I don't know if there's even time for phone calls.

Well, my baby--although sounded like a little adult--just called, (9:00pm cst), and is in absolute heaven!! Had to go up the the man in the red sash:eek:. Had a big pasta dinner. All were given 10 min. to call home-all standing in the "yard" calling home, as phones not working in rooms. CFA tomorrow and is very excited. Last words, "I'm going to go learn how to make my bed, bye". She did say that I could expect a call home every night--we shall see what we shall see

That's great to hear, I have to say I'm a little nervous for my turn next week! Glad to hear she's having fun even on the very first day!

AKH, you have no worries if your son or daughter is anything like mine! Although I will share that the waiting is the hardest part (very tom petty I know). Thank you for the kind thoughts!

Haha, if I get accepted to SLS for next year I'll probably forget there's a phone I can call at home.

I'm the daughter haha  I'll be sure to share with my parents though!

There's not much for parents to worry about during SLS. And if they can get reception, you'll get a calls telling you what a great time they're having. Save the angst for Beast.

red sash

Thanks for your reply. If you get to go up to the man in the red sash, what does that indicate? The mom above said her daughter got to go up to the man in the red sash ....I guess it could have been for any reason, a good job, questions, demonstration...etc...?

Good luck to you and have fun!

I think they all have to go up to the Cadet in the Red Sash. You might be able to see this in a YouTube video. We saw it in the service academy series that was on the military channel.

Could anyone perhaps use their phone call to ask their participant if WP has irons in the rooms to iron pants in the morning? That would be awesome :thumb:

updates from SLS?

Any parents who hear from DS or DD this week, please update us! My DS is one of those that is so wrapped up in what he's doing, he doesn't have time to bother with calls!

Received a text from DS after the CFA, I'm assuming after cleaning up for chapel. Having fun, did OK on the CFA he thinks.

Pull-ups was 2-3 lower than he has done in practice CFA's doing full hang cadence style, so they must have been stricter. Everything else was about where he had been in practice, though he was pleased to have maxed situps.

Hopefully we'll all hear from them tonight!

It indicates that after he or she confuses the living hell out of you, you will enter the barracks for the first time. The Cadet in the Red Sash is only posted on entrance day.

Update phone call from Daughter: still in a state of awe! They had grilled chicken, salad, macaroni and cheese, and cookies for lunch. Dinner was a pasta dish, broccoli, salad, and an incredible homemade blueberry cobbler:thumb:. Daughter compared being in the dining hall at WP to that of Hogwarts in Harry Potter. Took the cfa and believes she fared well. She said that it was so hot and humid when they did their mile run. She has also come to the understanding that it is actually possible to take a shower in five minutes! “They are keeping us very busy”. Will attend classes tomorrow. She sounds completely content and grateful to have this amazing opportunity.

Did you get your call yet hawk?

mtnman17, I'll try to remember this the next time D calls, but I doubt there are irons in the rooms. On the other hand, you never know .

Yep, short version: Loving it! Great roomie, great squad, cool pipe organ at chapel, really likes chatting with the others during what little down time they have.

I fully expect the evening phone calls to get shorter as the week progresses!
