Physical while on "my days"?

I already scheduled my physical but I will be getting out of my period (on my fourth day) the day of my physical and recently read the special recommendations for women in the FAQ and reads that I should "avoid" scheduling the physical 5 days before or after my period. Should I try to cancel and re schedule? Problem is I will not be able to give a 24 hr period for cancelation and I also worry that might be a problem.

What a dilemma. Thank you for your answers.

I wish the problems in my life were so easy. Of course call and try to reschedule. Tell them why you're rescheduling. Ask if the 24 hour thing will be a problem. Decide accordingly according to your preferences. I'll bet the 24 hour thing will not be an issue. Beats having to go again in any case. Really, what do you have to lose, a few bucks at worse. This is not hard.

Call them first thing Monday morning, note the circumstances, mention the FAQs and ask if it would be a problem to re-schedule. Sometimes older voice technology like the telephone is just right for occasions like this. Think about what you want to say and ask, introduce yourself, don’t rush your words, be appreciative. Let’s hope you have a free period or break where you can step to a quiet place and do this. It’s an adult skill worth practicing, part of being proficient in many means of professional communications.

It shouldn't be a real problem to go ahead with the exam. You have the option of having your female parts exam completed by your own pediatrician/doctor and submitted separately. My daughter used her own doc for that part. There is a form for the separate exam that you can download and then submit when your own doc can see you.

I am mainly worried about the urine test and blood/protein in urine finds. I think that it will trigger a remedial maybe. Anyone had this experience? Should I tell the doctor this and see what he says? I know they barely have dates available so I cannot be that picky but that's my main worry.

Hi foxtrot17. My DD had your experience and it did trigger a remedial. She had to go back to another lab and have the urinalysis done again. After the new test was submitted, the remedial was cleared in two days.

Gotcha - some locations haven't been conducting the urinalysis. I'd make the call to reschedule. Best of luck to you.

Can you point me to the URL with this special form? My daughter is definitely interested in this option. Thanks!

Two things to consider on this point. First, they no longer do an internal exam -- external only. So it's not really a big issue. Second, once in the military, she won't be seeing her civilian doctor and, at certain times, will have limited options in terms of military MDs (i.e., if she is carrier-deployed). You make it work.

My $0.02 is that your DD is really overthinking (overstressing about) this one.

My DD got only an external exam. No urinalysis.

I would (as a parent I can do that on DD’s behalf since she’s 17yo) have declined the urinalysis had they asked for one. Last thing my DD would want is a false positive for blood or protein on a UA and now they have to chase it causing extra expense and anxiety without a well-defined benefit in the end.

As an update, I am already an officer...long story short I did went on those days and was honest with the doc and asked him if I should reschedule but dates were scarce and he told me to just do the test and he would take into consideration that I was on my days if he found any blood whatsoever. I got remedials for other issues but never got one for my urinalysis so just be honest and talk it out with the doc, he might say just what this doc said or just to do it another day.
