I have received a conditional offer contingent on a medical waiver a few weeks ago. I have received a waiver from USMA already, so I am hopeful for one from USNA as well. I was also accepted into University of Michigan and I put my deposit down a few weeks ago because I did not hear anything from USNA or USMA for like 3 months and right after I put it down, I received the conditional offer from USNA. My USNA admissions counselor told me that the medical process can go past the May 1st college decision deadline. If I were to receive a waiver from USNA, is it possible to get out of Michigan? And if I get into USMA in a week or so and "decide" on them, can I get out of that after the May 1st deadline?

From my understanding and advice given to me about the same issue, you can accept the USNA or USMA appointment and drop your commitment to Michigan at the simple expense of the deposit.

My advice would be to decide which is your 2nd choice between Michigan and USMA. At some point you need to make a decision and you have the information necessary for those two.

If you choose Michigan as 2nd, you may get them to extend the deadline for deposit. DS was also waiting on a waiver and was able to get his rotc school to hold open his option until late May. It luckily was enough time for the waiver process to work out.

I believe others have been in the situation of having accepted one SA while waiting on another. I can't speak for any challenges, but would assume until you show up, you are free to walk away from it. A notice as soon as possible would be prudent if you did get USNA.

Good luck!

We kept a deposit on plan B school until after plebe summer was over (2019.) They were gracious enough to return the whole deposit, even though it wasn't their stated policy.

As long as you only hold one acceptance after May 1st, you are fine. A conditional offer is not an appointment, so you are in the clear to accept either USMA or Michigan and then. If USNA comes through, withdraw your acceptance from USMA/Michigan right away.

Thank you!

If I were to receive a waiver from USNA, is it possible to get out of Michigan?

Anonymous legal advice on the internet is worth what you pay for it.
This is an issue to discuss with University of Michigan. Read whatever you sign very carefully and understand it.
