any advice is welcome....DS has been admitted to his Plan B school..however he really is holding out hope for the USNA and is patiently waiting. Question is, should he let his Admissions RD know that he has been admitted to his Plan B school or not.

Patiently waiting? It's only September. Relax. Congratulations on admittance to Plan B school. I'm pretty sure USNA doesn't care about that information.

Maintain Plan B as long as possible. We even considered putting a deposit down almost up to IDay! DS never mentioned to USNA he had a solid back-up plan. It did however get mentioned during his MOC interview. DS did not receive his appointment until around mid-January, so many still have a long slog until they know one way or the other. The wait is the worst. Except for the wishing you could bubble wrap them until IDay!!

We actually did put a deposit down on University of Plan B. My son received his appointment in November, but he was waiting to decide until Spring when he could consider all of his options. Yes, it was money lost but it also served as extra insurance in case he changed his mind or was injured in some way.

During the moc interviews he was also asked what other colleges he was applying to. My impression is USNA admissions strongly encourages all candidates to explore options A,B and C and I agree, they likely have little if any interest in whether, where or if a candidate is accepted elsewhere.

Thank you all for your input..his plan B school is one that he wants as well after the USNA...we just didn't know if the topic of being admitted to another school was something that the USNA needed to know.

We learned last year that USNA could care less about whether your DS or DD got into USXXX or any other university.

Great that he has a plan B and it's locked in. Now he can focus all of his efforts to the MOC nom process.

Best of luck

My son was admitted into several of his Plan B schools before receiving his letter of admittance to USAFA. After he received his LOA, and had accepted, his ALO recommended that he notify his top Plan B school that he was planning to attend, but ask for a deferral from Fall Session to Winter Session. This way, if something happened before I-day (got hurt, got sick, etc), or if, for some reason, he didn't make it through BCT, he had a backup beyond Community College. We are about to cancel this for him in the next couple of weeks.

Agree with above poster. USNA doesn't care about acceptance to other schools, including other SAs. Most successful (and unsuccessful) candidates are accepted to other terrific schools and/or to other SAs.
