Son is still waiting to hear if he has an appointment, thanks to everyone here for helping keep hope that its not over yet. We are running out of time for Plan B and need to decide in the next couple of weeks. My son also received an NROTC scholarship and is trying to decide between two schools. He also has a offer to play baseball at a JUCO. My son has been very level headed about the whole thing and will reapply if he does not get an appointment. Obviously the NROTC thing is great but is there a downside if he was to go to the JUCO and play baseball and take engineering courses? In other words would the ROTC route increase his chances any of getting in next year? Just looking for any more input on the best route.

Of course it would increase his chances, assuming he is a good student/NROTC member. It increases his chance of receiving an additional nominating source. It enrolls him in the military services and exposes him to the lifestyle. Taking a plebe like schedule, and doing well, will show evidence that he can handle military obligations as well as academics.

I agree with Justdoit19 in that NROTC will likely give him a better chance of getting a appointment from reapplying next year than just engineering classes, but there is not just one path to being successful in reapplying.

He might be successfull in going the JUCO route and then going to USNA. He would need to have a plebe like schedule with academics as well as do some extracurriculars(including but besides baseball) to round out his application with leadership opportunities.

The only thing I would have him consider is what to do if he is not successful in the reapplication to USNA? NROTC route will still be available with no changes. JUCO he might have to consider going another year or finding a plan B. If his goal is to be a officer in the Navy after college, which path leads him to that goal the best way for him? (Rhetorical question)
