There are differing opinions on this, but we are keeping our plan B in case of illness or injury. We paid the deposit last fall so the only change made was to move his New Student Conference to the end of the summer. It was so much work to make all of this happen that I'm not willing to take a chance and my DS earned his opportunities. I would hate for him to break a bone or something and end up home at community college.
In case of injury/illness, would you forfeit your AFROTC money?
I called plan B and spoke with them. They are very happy to be back up plan for an academy. Said that they don't feel like an academy is direct competition. Felt like he deserved to have a chance for his hard earned scholarship and hope he doesn't need to use it. But they are there for him if he does. Thanked me for being honest about his situation and wished him well.
That was a great relief!
I spoke with my ALO earlier this evening. He said that if I was to get injured before I day, I would be issued a medical deferment, where I would be admitted the following fall, following a complete healing. This would mean that a plan B school isn't really necessary. This info definitely set me at ease a bit, so I figured I'd share. I hope this helps someone!
