Plan B

Hello All! I am an applicant to USMMA, and I was put on hold a couple weeks ago, and I do not believe my chances of getting in are too good. I have been trying to think out a Plan B for college since I know I could be on the wait list until June, so I will have to find somewhere to go.

I will need to self prep somewhere, but I am not sure where to go. I was accepted into University of Tennessee engineering, and also my dad lives there, so maybe that could help me with another nomination attempt, and also they have a pretty good engineering program. I know though that a lot of people go to MMI and other military schools like the Citadel.

What do you guys think the best schools are for self prep and why?

I don't think it matters as much where you go as it matters that you take Plebe like courses and get good grades. University of Tennessee is a fine school. But don't give up yet. Still more offers to come.

Talk to your Admissions Rep they will tell you what areas need to be improved to make you a more viable candidate. I can only tell you what worked for my DS. He went to MMI and did well, most importantly he was able to raise his SAT score which was his weak point that was pointed out by his Admissions Officer. Now he has his 2024 appointment. Both MMI and NMMI require classes to help with SAT/ACT. For Kings Point Service Academy Prep Students they require a course load that mimics KP's freshman year. Its not easy..... or fun...... but it does prepare. I'm sure other will weigh in. Good luck!

There are a lot of great options for you. Did you look at any of the other maritime schools? SUNY Maritime is in eyesight of USMMA and is a great opportunity. There are about a half a dozen other maritime schools, from Maine to California.
