PLC slot - as difficult to get selected as NROTC MO sideload?

In light of the 2 year sideload situation this year DS has decided to pursue PLC in parallel to competing for the 2 year sideload after not winning the 3 year Navy sideload. Getting a contract to commission is his goal, and while his first dream was to become a Naval aviator he is just as enthusiastic about leading Marines and Marine aviation. He told his AMOI of his plan, who had some very stern feedback on the extreme challenge of getting through 2xOCS and TBS, and committed to sit down for a deep discussion on his plan once he's back at school. DS fully understands he must be totally committed to being a Marine officer, totally committed, to be competitive. His COs have been very candid that grades (2.7) were the only reason he didn't win the 3 yr sideload, so he's comfortable with the PT goals he'll need to set and achieve as a Marine.

Here is my question: Is it more difficult from a numbers/total slots perspective to get selected for PLC, assuming one meets all qualifications, than winning a MO sideload? To be clear DS is Navy option but I'm interested in the differnce (if any) in selectivity between MO sideload and PLC.

Thanks.

Im not sure of the numbers, but based on my experience, a PLC slot is much easier. There is little financial obligation on the part of the USMC. You get a stipend, but no other benefits. At least that is my under

Correct. Much Easier. You CAN Contract PLC "Aviation" right from the get-go. In some cases years before NROTC-MO and USNA Students. Before you sign the Aviation PLC Guarantee you will complete the Aviation Selection Test Battery (ASTB-E) and a Flight Physical. We have a family friend who PLC Aviation Contracted Freshman Year. The current monthly pay is the E-5 Rate. The first summer first half OCS, 2nd Summer 2nd half OCS, then after Grad/Commissioning TBS. then off to flight school.

My only change to @Jimdlt19 post is the 1+ year (possible) wait in between TBS and Pensacola. The 8 year service commitment for USMC Aviation does not start until you finish flight school. The 8 year is really more like 11+

Thanks - very helpful. The OSA got back to DS right away and has setup a meeting with the OSO when he returns to campus shortly to start assembling his packet.
