PLC Through Reserves

So I made the mistake of contacting a Marine Corps recruiter for information about PLC, and the path that he planned out for me was to go to boot camp in June or July, enlist in the reserves then go to college. Though this path isn't totally irrational, wouldn't there be a possibility I could be deployed with my reserve unit during college and throw my whole education off? I am still a senior in high school, so I am assuming it would be beneficial to contact an OSO rather follow through with enlistment. I am also looking into the TAMU Corps of Cadets, so would it be possible to be in a reserve unit and in the corps at the same time? Thank you for any help!

Yes, you could be deployed. Definitely talk to an OSO. PLC is an excellent path but you don't need to enlist to pursue it. You HAVE applied for an NROTC Marine Option scholarship, right? You HAVE considered participating as an NROTC MO even without a scholarship, right? Normally I suggest PLC as a backup or alternative to the NROTC paths.

BTW, DS started NROTC MO without a scholarship and was awarded one that kicked in sophomore year.

If you are going to college anyway, the only reason I see to pursue the suggested path is money, and it has a lot of downside.

I am/planning to do the same thing as you. I'm not sure about USMC, but I know for a fact Army SMP is nearly identical to this, in which if you'd be interested obviously it has it's own requirements but still you are non-deployable.

Thank you for the information, as of right now NROTC MO is my first option and personally a more beneficial option, I just wanted a back-up that did not require enlistment. Thank you again!

While I don't disagree with @MichaelT2022 , be sure you fully understand the SMP before pursuing that route.

Also, with due respect to Army brethren, the Army is not the Marines, even if it's only with respect to where you live and are stationed.
