Please Post something about Plebe Summer that is Positive

If you haven’t been told otherwise from your kid then assume they are following the regular schedule until they tell you something different.

Just morning ? Plebes don't do chow calls for noon and evening formations anymore ?

As of last year it was morning and noon. There is no mandatory evening meal anymore. Mando morning meal is twice a week, but most companies will still have morning quarters formation even when there is no mando breakfast, so there are still chow calls.

30,000 gallons (that's a good-sized 20'x40' swimming pool) of milk quaffed by Midshipmen every month. That's 360,000 gallons in a year, which is exactly what one ship lock in the Three Gorges Dam will hold.
Wow.

USNA used to have its own dairy.. milk was distributed in USNA labeled containers and everything, I think it was sold off 15-20 years ago. my mother had one of the old containers sitting in her pantry for years.

I learned some new terminology this week. It has been fun, watching all the Plebes walking around with smiles on their faces.
Of course, there are a lot of parents, grandparents, and siblings walking around with smiles, as well.

We went to the movies (my DS said that pretty much everyone in his Company saw the latest Mission: Impossible movie yesterday).
We had spaghetti and marinara (homemade from home) burgers, Chinese take-out, milkshakes, bagels, and more.

Pool swimming and lying around like slugs.
Very relaxing.

They have been back from Liberty for the last 30 minutes, so it's my guess that the Detailers are wrecking shop, right about now. ;)

Probably. More than anything the Plebes build it up in their heads. It is much tamer than many moons ago. I don’t think they let the Christmas music play anymore. I remember our retailers blaring music and screaming at us into the parking lot and being dropped the minute we stepped back in Bancroft. At this point the yelling and PT doesn’t effect them. It’s the social media, missing family, being normal for a few days, seeing their friends first few weeks of college on social media more than anything. Most are exhausted and sick. Also the ‘unknown’ of what reform and ac year holds makes them anxious. The next week is moving, computers, finalize uniforms, books, finalize class schedules. They start to get more freedom and some down time too.

Ahh,,,,what a great tradition.,..I'm dreaming of a White Christmas before SHTF.

Seriously, for the Parents who just left their Plebes -- they are fine. The Detailers came down on them last night, probably not as bad as in the past, but well choreographed and planned . The goal is to refocus after Parent's Weekend. The Plebes went to bed worried about what's gonna happen tomorrow instead of what happened yesterday.

Four years at USNA is a marathon, not a sprint. (Sound familiar ?). There will be obstacles and challenges until DS/DD throw their hat in the air, and then they start all over. The truth is, Plebe Summer is probably the easiest - expectations are low, and the Plebes outnumber the detailers. Now, the odds change to 3:1 (don't worry, the First Class will stop caring about Plebes as the year goes on, and most Third Class should be mentors not flamers).

What! No Christmas Music? I thought it was very funny as we walked out toward Gate One at the end of PPW [wife not so much]. Another tradition gone?

My DS said that Christmas Music was playing when he returned last night. He still had his phone, at that point.

Glad to see they still had it going! I am guessing they start to get their phones more often now. They will have their computers shortly too.

Not to worry, Christmas music was blasting out of Bancroft on Sunday around 5pm when I dropped my DS :) It looks like they won't get their phones back until Thursday or Friday this week.

There was definitely Holiday music playing. And the Detailer’s were standing in the windows waving to everyone. How nice of them to welcome back! [emoji23]

They won't get either their phones or computers until after hello night on Friday. After that it will be the normal plebe restrictions.

What a weekend. Amazing experience.

Several times I walked into a coffee shop/restaurant this past weekend and saw Plebes with their covers sitting on the tables.
I asked my DS when I got back (because it was like fingernails on a chalk board to me) and he assured me that they are still taught not to do that.
So the fact that he knows that, makes this a positive.

I should have asked him if they still put the little wire rack under the chow tables, for this purpose. I never went in King Hall this past weekend, or I would have looked.

When I was there for NASS the chairs in King Hall had little metal racks for a cover below the seat portion! There was even room for our drawstring bags :)

Ah yes, chairs. That's what I meant.
Good to know!

If you go to the Light House Bistro on West Ave, you can see some USNA dining hall chairs fro the 50's that they restored and are using. They have the metal racks/shelf under the seat also; wood seats and backs too.

Probably should add this restaurant to the 'where to eat in Annapolis' thread. Pretty good food and I like their mission. Check it out!

ps. there was a mid/Plebe in there and his cover was on the rack. Our DS noted the cover in the correct spot. Good for the Plebe as our son was a second set detailer!

I heard that Hell-O night was actually last night. This may mean that a text will be coming sometime today.
