PLEASE RESPOND AS LOAs COME IN

The suspense is killing me

I feel like I'm waiting to hear whether I am going to receive an LOA instead of my son. The suspense is killing me. I can only imaging how he feels!

It will take a few days for the actual LOA to get to you in the mail. However, MALO's have access to who has been given an LOA; I found out I was given an LOA from my MALO last year about three days before it actually got to me in the mail.

Don't stress it out, guys. I was in your shoes last year and I know the wait is tough but try to enjoy the time you have left. West Point has been a fantastic experience so far and I wouldn't trade it for anything, but it is a very demanding place. Don't forget to enjoy being a high school senior. Your Beast will be here soon enough :thumb:

Maybe I should give him a call...

Oh wait. :(

It would be wise to bear in mind that many folks who are hoping for an LOA will not receive (yes, that could be YOU). This year will be a light year for LOAs and those with profiles that are just above-average on an absolute scale should bear that in mind. Many above average students will apply. Thousands of them. This year, LOAs will tend toward exceptional candidates moreso than in the past.

I don't know if it's just me or not, but I haven't really cared much for the LOAs.

Well, I guess you are right for not caring much. But, for example, getting a LOA is not just something for the "peace of mind", but it is really important, actually, given my situation.

Can you please elaborate?

You said "given your situation." What is your situation? What is your "case"?

Currently residing in Brazil... Well, I guess you could say I am just like any other overseas candidate. But I've been told I am in an "unique" situation.

Anyhow, the only point of my post was to let people know that well, yes, perhaps LOAs are not everything... But they do help.

I'm not sure if you guys can really consider this an LOA (or EOA?) , but I'm planning on getting the task done and getting it. This was what I was sent though, so you guys can determine it for yourselves.

Major Dermanoski forwarded me your email since I handle all Soldier applicants. I just took a look at your file and it looks very competitive for admission to USMA under the Soldier admissions program. In fact, once you get your company commander to endorse you with the attached form, I am prepared to offer you an Letter of Assurance (LOA) for the Class of 2016! This means we will hold a spot for you in this year's class until you complete the rest of your application and medical exam. You can get your basic training commander, AIT commander or Reserve unit commander to do the endorsement.

As for stats, here they are:

ACT: Math 32, Read 30, Eng 33, Write 28, Sci 29
SAT: Math 730, Verbal 630, Writing 650

Varsity Track 1 year
ROTC Member 2 years
School club officer (Boxing Treasurer)
School Club President (Breakdance Club)
Church Orchestra, Church Student Leader, AWANA Teacher
2nd Place VEX Robotics Nationals
3rd Place Academic Decathlon State (California)

GPA: Really bad, 3.0. :/ And class rank was 319 out of 820. This was probably why I got rejected the first time through.

Didn't take the CFA yet, but this is my reapplication. And I'm going for prior service, if you haven't read my quoted material above.

By the way, is this too early for me to celebrate?

That's awesome! Congrats! Plus I believe you're eligible for a presidential nom. Therefore LOA + Nom = Appointment!

Looks like an EOA for a LOA. If you get your company commander's endorsement - THEN you can celebrate!

Actually - he is not eligible for a Pres nom based on the info given.
He is eligible for a Soldier nom (either regular army or reserve).
A Presidential nom is for children of active or retired military.
Both Presidential and Soldier noms are considered Service Connected noms as opposed to MOC noms.

Oh I wasn't aware! Thanks for the correction!

Is your commander a grad?

Question: are FFRs required to notify their candidates if they are to receive an LOA or is that up to the FFR's discretion?
